Orbiting Satellite
many people want a satellite, or maybe an orbital base around your planet, and is not easy to make a satellite to orbit a planet due to the speed limitation and physics not being 100% "real". I know, it is possible but you have to change a few game parameters. Or you can use the magic of scripts

Just build it outside the planet's gravity well. That way it doesn't fall down due to gravity, and it will remain stationary where you placed/built it.

Yeah, sure, thats not how satellites work in real life, but I don't think orbital mechanics would fit Space Engineer's theme.

Orbital mechanics are already in Space Engineers. Don't believe me? Spend a little time playing with a spherical gravity generator.

If it weren't for the speed cap and, to a lesser extent, lack of flight instrumentation, orbiting a planet would be perfectly possible in SE. The math isn't that complicated.

yea somebody already made some test changing the game settings, like speed and gravity changes

After spending time making drones it's very possible to use a remote to orbit a planet! It's as simple as inputting the way points! That simple!

FYI use Prof. Hulks Anitmatter Batteries and never worry about power issues again. Have 4 drones that have been in the air 59+ hours of gaming and counting.

That's not an orbit. It's powered flight. ;)

After playing around with the sperical gravity generators, yes.You were right, orbital mechanics are already in-place.
Well you learn something new every day.

Cheers! It would be pretty dang neat if Keen did something to give us usable orbits in-game, but I'm not holding my breath.

well, in miner wars the speed limit is almost 200m/s(if i remember correctly) and with that speed you can orbit the moon

Good for Miner Wars. XD

if they can stabilize the engine enoguh they might be able to high the speed limit
it's the same engine right?

I think SE uses a newer version of the engine, but I'm pretty sure SE is much much larger in scope. Tough to say, I haven't played Miner Wars.

well, miner wars has destructible asteroids, wich are the same as miner wars, but it does not haves all the phisics that SE has,you should take a look at it.

There more way points the slower the satellite will go! So basically it can be a slow flight orbit.

Except that is not what an orbit is.

It's just flying around the planet in a circle.

An orbit requires no thrust once it's been established.
