What am I doing wrong with Magnesium and Gold?
I find an asteroid, mine and get a fair amount of gold and magnesium, say 5k of each.

When I refine it and look in my container later, the amount is much smaller as in maybe 100 kg of gold and magnesium so I am continually running out when I try to build even though it appear, to me anyway, that I am collecting enough for manufacturing.

I have not had much coffee so if I am missing something elementary, please forgive me. :-)

I have a beloved grandson who loves to blow things up and I am desperately trying to get materials together to make rockets and ammo for him to blow up a station I am building just for him (nothing special but things that will show damage) to his little heart's content. Whoever did the explosion work, thank you, as you made one little guy very happy. :-)

Any guidance appreciated.

Nat

Note: Thanks to you folks I FINALLY got the whole conveyor system mostly figured out. Now I just have to learn to build leak proof buildings. :-)

Is ore somewhere inside of your ship the connector can't reach ,Like not piped properly?

Well, they just have low yields, I don't know the numbers of Magnesium, but gold in a standard refinery (all settings on realistic) yields you just around 8 kg of gold for 100 kg of gold ore.

The game simulates rareness in minerals by having lower yields per ore, rather than having smaller (thus harder to find) veins. Iron has the best yields with Platinum the worst, and everything else fits in between.

All you can really do is add Effectiveness Modules to your refineries (and assemblers if that works - I don't recall off-hand) to get more bang for your buck. But Magnesium and Gold are quite "rare" and the returns are never going to be spectacular.

Different ores refine down to different volumes of ingots - Per the wiki, (http://www.spaceengineerswiki.com/Refinery) Gold is 1% of starting volume, magnesium 0.7%. It just takes an enormous amount of ore to get much out.

I knew I should have made coffee this morning instead of drinking diet Dr. Pepper!

What a newbie question to ask; should have figured that one out myself.

I really appreciate you folks taking it easy on me as that one would have been an easy one to flame into a well done shrivel. :-)

Ok, now back to making that manufacturing setup like I want it to look.

Thanks for everything!

Nat

PS The grandson is going to have a blast. I even made a giant "rabbit" on the station for him to shoot up. He does not like rabbits for some reason, possibly because his mother loves them and they tend to bite anyone but her.

Rabbits are fine, just don't hurt the Space Cows (yes, I just love showing off my Space Cow).

FYI... if you have ejectors anywhere; my first newb mistake....check those as they sometimes hold ore and the only way to get it out is to EJECT it or destroy the ejector.

or you could turn 'collect all' off =p

If you are building to blow stuff up why not use creative with all the damage settings turned on?
