Whats a good "target temperature" for my CPU?
OK so one of the blades broke off my cpu fan ages ag and caused a big rattle inside my case cos it was off balance. Sorted it by breaking off 2 more blades so the weight was equal. Now i got a new fan and im setting up motherboard options to control the speed. But i dunno whats good temps so i kinda need to know whats a good target temp and whats an unsafe temp. Then i can moniter it and adjust. What you guys think?

That depends on your model of CPU. What are you running? =)
AMD FX6100 six core @ 3.3ghz

The maxiumum operating temperature of that chip is listed at 70c. Give her a spin and see what temps you're hitting under heavy CPU load.
Right i set it for target 60, its holding it there under heavy load but the fan dosent half spin up. Sounds like its gonna take off haha

Maybe if i up the target to 65ish it might be a lil quieter?

I'm not sure I follow. What's the "target?" The idea is to keep your CPU cool as you can.
My mobo lets me either manualy set a fan speed, or set a "target temp" to keep the cpu at. I went with the target and set for 60. When it hits around 57 the fan begins to pick up speed and by the time the CPU is at 60 the fans goin crazy....but is holding it at 60 not letting it go over

I personally set my "Target" lower for custom fan configurations. I want them to pretty much start maxing out once it reachs (E.g.) 55, just because i want to make sure it stays at the right temp.

That's called 'throttling' your fans are compensating for heat... also if you're concerned about temps, go buy an aftermarket cooler; lots of reviews for them on newegg.

I'm not familiar with AMD, but I'm sure they've got safeguards like Intel, for shutting down if they become too hot; you can turn these off in the bios but I wouldn't suggest it.

Have you overclocked your CPU? If not then I wouldn't even worry about it.

exactly. if you dont overclock you shouldnt worry. if youre in a hot enviroment, then it a good idea to get extra or better heat dissipation.

No OC on it. The temps are looking good now, dosent even let it wander to 61, jus holds it there at 60. The noise is insane compared to my old one though lol

you could save and spend a bit on a cpu fan, if its too noisey.

You could just pretend its your space suit... faulty as bro. XD
