Can I send out, on planet, a drone to discover and mark designated ores?
Hi, I`m new to SE but am just loving it :) there is so much to discover.
Q... Can I send out a drone on a planet to seek out and mark a spesific ore (like uranium), if so how?
Thanks.

If you can get a probe with an antenna that can reach you all the back on the planet side you could mark positions from the remote control that you're controlling. But Basically you need a sattellite network working first, since asteroids are 40'000 meters away from the planet.

If you wanted to just do it to scavenge around the planet side, you just need to open the K menu and go to GPS (for anything really) while you're controlling the drone, and mark your coords.

You can, but you'll need to remote control it yourself, so I guess it depends on your definition of "drone." I may be mistaken because I'm not a programmer, but I don't think the programmable block has the tools you would need to automate an ore scout.

Not really on terrain, they can be made to follow GPS coords through a program block run auto pilot AI though, but those coords need to be laid out in advance for it to follow. So that would be good for an ant line to where you need them to go to and from, but it wouldn't let you comb the desert, er planet, for ore.

I'll upload some cheap blueprints for some planet side tanketts you could easily modify to skim the surface for ore.

Thanks all. It was auto pilot drone I was hoping may be able to do that discovery work for me, maybe some day huh :)
Any help is well appreciated.
Cheers
There are auto pilot scripts for ground vehicles, on the workshop, but I don't know if they can flag ore deposits for you.

Here's a pair of defensive drone tankettes, they've got a good chassis for other applications though, you could easily modify them for.

Those look cool but I don't think we have permission to see them? I get an error saying as much when i try.

I experimented with the idea with a battery powered rover, there is evidence that they can be made to mark co-ordinates, but its WAY beyond my abilities if it is infact possible.

Currently there's no way to get co-ordinates of an ore deposit, or even if one is in detection range of a vehicle. Perhaps it's coming later, but for now it just isn't possible (at least with the base game - a mod may change this).

There's nothing to stop you making some kind of (semi-)automated exploration drone, but you'd have to be "riding along" with it to mark locations manually.

If you are into mods i would also reccomend this to get link to the drone http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=404568464&searchtext=laser+communication this laser antenna can reach 1000km if im not wrong (yes it is 1000km). So then you could reach it from an asteroid close to a planet i think? Just make sure it doesn't get covered by stuff so the connection wont break!
Those drones should be subscribable now.
