Is the spider faction new?

I haven't noticed this before, Space Spiders are in the faction screen, founded by "the great taurantula".

Been that way since planets were released. The majority of the AI in SE uses ingame elements (the drones, for instance, use programable blocks to help guide them to the player, or whatever the player is controlling). The faction was made so the npcs can register as enemies to the mechanics to discern ally grids/players from enemy grids/players.
