Well, its a graphics card post-processing feature, which means the game can run easily at 60fps if you have a juicy graphics card coupled in SLI or Crossfire mode. Won't put much of a load on the CPU.
I know they must optimise the game more, but it seems the problems is at the CPU and insufficient multithreading. They must try to distribute their code over 4 threads and not 2 threads as they currently do.
DX11 is implemented and is not being used at its full capacity. This lighting feature can make the game 10 times more awesome, when building bases on planets and the sun rises. The buildings looks too dark and even placing lights don't help much, because there is no reflection used. I think VXGI can solve this problem when using lights in dark places.
I like the idea, but this statement worries me. Not everyone is going to have SLI/Crossfire, or even a nice GFX card. gotta make things run on average hardware, and honestly the lower your specs the easier it will sell.
This can always be a feature to be enable or disable. I understand the debacle about the DirecX issues and how users must migrate from DX9 to DX11 by replacing their old graphics cards, but this doesn't mean users with high end setups must be satisfied by mediocre graphics. Theres always room for improvement and I personally feel this lighting feature will solve numerous lighting issues and greatly expand the possibilities and design of star ships
Currently there is a problem with the lighting and its not working as it should. There is no reflection or bouncing of lighting on surfaces. Most components is build from steel, which is supposed to reflect plentiful of light, and to make lighting the enviroment more realistic.
I presume the game use a simple HDR approach and automatically reduce the ambience lighting when entering a dark spot. This in turn make the enviroment too dark and when turning on the lights, not creating the correct ambience lighting. The contrast between the lighted spot and dark spots are too great and causing unpleasant eye sores!
