The Factorum. Thoughts and Ideas.
The recent teaser in the newsletter has revealed to us "The Factorum". Send your thoughts and ideas about this new (or old) faction here.

My current idea: A cybernetic race that is heavily militarized and is preparing for war. The next update might have us waging a war against the Factorum on Mars, Europa, and elsewhere in system. They may even be the ones responsible for the Monolith and Stereolith on Mars and Luna (Moon). Either way we will have to work hard to fight and win against this new threat to the star system.

imo, they are closer to adaptus mechanicus. they are mostly or entirely machine but were once human... just my guess

Some kind of endgame-ish hostile faction that will have "prototech" is my guess. We might be locked out of building prototech blocks until we steal the technology from these guys.

I hope that they are an actual threat, meaning npc robots that send ship after ship after you. I doubt they will be like actual NPC people, but it would be cool.

Here's my canon-hope dream. The factorum are a huge threat to our players, and there's another faction, the alien race that made the Monoliths and Steroliths that use a different technology. That left it behind for us to use.

Honest;y, judging from the two names it sounds more like a rouge robot faction. This will justify the lack of actual NPC people (or if so, synthetic). And from the teaser, it sounds similar to Stellaris's endgame crisis; so as you progress into the game, you'll eventually encounter these two factions at endgame. Forcing you to test your progress. Hell, maybe SPAT would be the human survivors who are outcasted for not being AI or something.

I would not overhype this. Likely a few block additions followed by reskins and possibly a change in stats. Although, it sounds like a blast either way! I cannot wait to finally have a true test against my coalition.

Maybe one of the Devs read Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson, it that series there is a race that seeks to reject their biological beginnings and pursue a totally 'higher' state of being as clones (very cyberpunk) but aiming towards "Murder bot" or "Foundation".
They rely on technology and almost praise it like "Life of Brian" , also they a referred to by many races as 'Pin heads'. These little Green M Effers are chasing in the foot steps of ...... "The Ancients......" an advanced species that explored our galaxy, set up worm holes, got bored and ascended [a bit on the nose but the lead characters are worth it], the Ancients left monoliths and the Thoranin (Green M Effers) didn't.
So it could be a race to stop the Green M Effers and keep peace in the verse or to get hold of the Ancients and ask them why they left all there planet killing AI's awake and angry.
I hope someone else sees just how lucky I was to finish that series 4 weeks ago while I still remember it, and how it links to the glowing path of evidence I just laid down before you. Can I git an Eman.

As the world shifted from the Military Industrial Complex to the Aerospace Industrial Complex, those who made their money in defense were at a crossroads.

Some adapted to the times. They turned their intercontinental missiles into space ships, their swords into plowshares.
Some retired. They decided there were fates worse than watching your billions become millions.

But some fought against change, against Modularity. They fought unimpeded by morality, consequences be damned. They created a unique Prototech.
And they call themselves The Factorum.

1) This is a faction, so is likely just a faction like all the other factions. Nothing that new.
2) From the description, Factorum is a step backward if anything. The world shifted and people adapted and those that could not adapt became the Factorum.
3) This is Keen. Groundbreaking isn't their thing unless sometimes its the ground they are standing on. :)

I'd expect a very heavily militaristic faction and like some others suggested i'd also expect we need to farm them for the components to make the prototech blocks, gives players reason to explore around looking for them. It's supposed to be a pve focused update so lets hope we'll see more planet bases and encounters so planets aren't giant voxel balls of boring.

My hope is that they have some higher "thought" like a command board, if you take out tons of them then they'll retreat, if not, they keep fighting you until you crumble, and hopefully you can "eliminate" them for a time if you take out enough of them. All just hopes and dreams though.

Personally, I think The Factorum should be a faction deploying 1 mega ship filled with prototech and a bunch of fighters you have to get through to get it. It would encourage raiding tactics and teamwork (on multiplayer). Plus all the mechanics are already in game. the signal beacons could allow scripted dialogue based on how many fighters you destroy, whether you've breached the ship, or whether they intend to attack a planet.
