Hours. I am retired so I had the time chunk (sort of). These planets need another run under the "Salt & Pepper" Shakers of Elemental Creation. For the "make it even more fun" Hell of it.
A lot of the ice lake on Earth are Rich ore spots of that Planet.
-> The Desert where there is a ice lake is the best place to build your first respawn station, it is the Easy Biome of the Earth planet.
Rich ore spots = Where all ores can be found close to each other, some areas have all ores within 1 Km.
_______________
Info +
We can take control of where we want to spawn :
(it should be in the video Tutos in-game F1)
Hit F5 when falling with the DropPod on Earth for example, that will reload the world with the same DropPod and land at another area, redo till you land at a Rich ore spot or Easy Biome.
_________________
Do the following if the F5 Respawn at another area is not working, happens when playing with auto-respawn enabled and/or auto-save :
1 - Turn Off the Survival Kit on your Drop Pod / Respawnship.
(so you will not auto-respawn there)
2 - Hit the Backspace key to kill your character and open the respawn window.
3 - Select the same respawn ship to respawn at another area.
4 - Redo the above till you land at a ice lake, snowy Pole or at the Easy Biome of the planet.
Don't waste your time exploring around Trade stations because those delete all ores 8Km around them.
Edit
The Veteran who shared that Tip was not me ;)
You always recommend doing this, but I find it to be kinda cheaty, honestly. Might as well just blueprint the starter pod, then start a new world using the Earth Start custom game scenario, delete the base and spawn in the starter pod at that point.
Also the default landing on Earth is mountain start most of the time and it's cool to have the possibility to take control of where we want to spawn for not doing the same start every time.
Like creative players prefer to start on one of the Moons to have all ores very early in survival, that is a thing too.
Keep searching. You've got to build a vehicle that'll let you go out in a 5-10K range if there isn't anything immediately around you.
Haha cheap spoiler tip?
Get the hydrogen bottle from the generator. Jet *straight up*. Look around. You won't have to get too too high before you see a lake, it'll be within easy jetpack+bottle distance and it'll only take the one trip to fill up enough to get you to the atmospheric-thrusters-on-a-2-med-cargo-rover stage.
Another thing I normally do when I find my first batch of ore deposits is copy what the devs did in easy-start worlds and build a little ore detecting station that's basically only what the ore detector needs to operate: A battery, solar panels to charge the battery, an ore detector, and an antenna.
Ore deposits are always in the same places in the Star System world. There's more than Uranium included in these mods Spaceman Spiff made. There are GPS markers listed in them for pretty much every ore in the game:
