Earth Like Planet spawn question
About how far from the rescue pod should I look for resources?

I am in the partially snow covered rocky mountain region. I have grid searched out to about 1.5 km and have not found anything. I am not perfect so I am sure my grid didn't go as smooth as I think it did lol.

I don't know how many hours it's been since I started playing and I finally found iron.

Hours. I am retired so I had the time chunk (sort of). These planets need another run under the "Salt & Pepper" Shakers of Elemental Creation. For the "make it even more fun" Hell of it.

Hi, it takes time to explore the Earth Planet and land at its Rich ore spots.

A lot of the ice lake on Earth are Rich ore spots of that Planet.
-> The Desert where there is a ice lake is the best place to build your first respawn station, it is the Easy Biome of the Earth planet.

Rich ore spots = Where all ores can be found close to each other, some areas have all ores within 1 Km.

_______________

Info +

We can take control of where we want to spawn :
(it should be in the video Tutos in-game F1)

Hit F5 when falling with the DropPod on Earth for example, that will reload the world with the same DropPod and land at another area, redo till you land at a Rich ore spot or Easy Biome.

_________________

Do the following if the F5 Respawn at another area is not working, happens when playing with auto-respawn enabled and/or auto-save :

1 - Turn Off the Survival Kit on your Drop Pod / Respawnship.
(so you will not auto-respawn there)

2 - Hit the Backspace key to kill your character and open the respawn window.

3 - Select the same respawn ship to respawn at another area.

4 - Redo the above till you land at a ice lake, snowy Pole or at the Easy Biome of the planet.

There's better search patterns, easier to execute cleanly, and 1.5km is gimme range, rookie numbers, you gotta bump that up. edit: I have not yet failed to find all the planetary ores within no-bottle jetpack mining range of any drop point, and I've done a lot of drops, I like honing my dances.

Veteran Tip

Don't waste your time exploring around Trade stations because those delete all ores 8Km around them.

Edit
The Veteran who shared that Tip was not me ;)

You always recommend doing this, but I find it to be kinda cheaty, honestly. Might as well just blueprint the starter pod, then start a new world using the Earth Start custom game scenario, delete the base and spawn in the starter pod at that point.

Yes may be cheating for some but it's what the Devs shows in the Official video Tuto in-game F1, Respawn at another area is available.

Also the default landing on Earth is mountain start most of the time and it's cool to have the possibility to take control of where we want to spawn for not doing the same start every time.

Like creative players prefer to start on one of the Moons to have all ores very early in survival, that is a thing too.

I'm a bunch of hours into my game and I finally found ICE. My reserve in the pod was down to 0.20 and I haven't been able to fill a bottle in days. (I have gotten extremely decent at covering 4-5k with the dampers off though

Keep searching. You've got to build a vehicle that'll let you go out in a 5-10K range if there isn't anything immediately around you.

And being fortunate to land near snow . Unlimited source of hydrogen to scout in your jetpack. Grind them rocks for basic ores and put wheels on the landing pod.

Haha cheap spoiler tip?

Get the hydrogen bottle from the generator. Jet *straight up*. Look around. You won't have to get too too high before you see a lake, it'll be within easy jetpack+bottle distance and it'll only take the one trip to fill up enough to get you to the atmospheric-thrusters-on-a-2-med-cargo-rover stage.

I don't think I've ever landed on the Earth-Like planet in the same area. I believe where the pod spawns to land is completely random. I could be wrong. The easiest way I've found to find ore deposits is to drive a large grid rover around with an ore detector and an antenna on it.

Another thing I normally do when I find my first batch of ore deposits is copy what the devs did in easy-start worlds and build a little ore detecting station that's basically only what the ore detector needs to operate: A battery, solar panels to charge the battery, an ore detector, and an antenna.

Ore deposits are always in the same places in the Star System world. There's more than Uranium included in these mods Spaceman Spiff made. There are GPS markers listed in them for pretty much every ore in the game:

Oh, I know. I'm right on the equator and there isn't a single lake within atleast 5k around me though. No snow either. I was finally able to find some underground with the ore detector+antenna on my rover.

This is my 'I reckon' for finding the ore you need at about the time you need it is the Unknown Signals. This theory is backed up by the good people at 'I Reckon' and it postulates that if your progress stagnates due to a lack of eg. Cobalt for grids after an as yet unconfirmed use of curse words or threats of violence towards the computer (with the game in it) or at Keen (also live in the computer) an Unknown Signal landing in a new area may or may not lead you to ore, so flop your drill out when running or flying low towards the little free geft of steel pate etc because you might just get ores (no w,h,) one the retrieval run. Biv out. P.S. Survival tip, do not use snake skin as "TP" with out written permission.
