As do most of us, but in the interest of accuracy and factual information, there has been no solid announcement of a Space Engineers 2 in the works...

To reinforce what Capt Fuzzy said, the water and other things they have been showing off are demos for the Vrage 3 engine they are working on. It is not Space Engineers 2. They might do a new Space Engineers using Vrage 3 but nothing has been announced yet.

I think it is more likely they will convert space engineers to this new engine rather than making SE2. I see little point in making game from scratch of they have so much content already and an amazing foundation.

To do that, would require the exact same scrapping.

Vrage III has a different version of Havok.

That is all space engineers will ever be, a tech demo that will never reach it's full potential. Won't make that mistake twice. They have already wasted more than decade of my time and money on failed projects.
The question becomes how much CPU are we willing to spend on these cool features? Every feature costs. There may be a need to draw even more lines between the PC and console versions of the game.

Hi, me too can't wait to see what will be their next game but they are just at working on a new game engine so it will probably take years before they publish a new game.

+
Marek told the community he will not add water and NPCs they are working on to SE but they want to keep working on Space Engineers as to make it better from community suggestions shared as Feedback on their Support Portal.

How did THEY waste YOUR time? This sounds like a you problem, not a game issue.

I am hopeful for space engineers 2.
It is very old fashion to have the sequal be better.
Instead of modern day buggy releases and with less content then the previous game.

I would love if SE had a baby with Empyrion.

SE mechanics and physics + Empyrion exploration and content would make for one of most amazing space games out there.

No matter how hopeful you are, to spare your self from future disappointments.

Just think of it, "its another cooking show in the middle of a themed park" nothing solid, concrete from Keen, "They are just cooking". :steamhappy:

The devs should make a sequel with a medieval theme.
It could be titled: "Medieval Engineering".

A lot voted for SE2, SE MMO and Steam Punk like, in the Surveys, for their next game but they did not specified what will be their next game yet.

EDIT
Surveys results :
