Question: Which Custom Mode Should I Start With?
I like the Star System custom game, but they don't add the Space pirate stations on planets in that one. What custom game mode would give me those but still give me a beginner start on Earth?

Hi, if not already done, use the ones where we start at a default Faction Station = Easier

I recommend the custom world named "Earth planet" to find the first warship solution against the SPRT stations on all planets, moons and space.

Make sure all is enabled from the world advanced settings, all NPCs and Economy for the second Warship solution to find by doing a "Escort Contract" at the Trade stations.

We can take time to build a small block and/or large block scout ship with ore detector and explore the Earth Planet to find all its Rich ore spots, that is where all ores can be found very close to each other -> all availabe ores within 1Km.

Add one NPC Mod once you have found all the Rich ore spots and both Warship solutions.

To specify :

Starting at a station with all in gives time to build a "Exploration Ship" to find a Rich ore spot and build your Respawn station, Refinery stations, Recharging station, needed ships, etch ...

great advice but i think OP actually wanted advice on the "scenario" to select.

you're giving advice as if they already picked the solar system one.

OP is asking if there's a custom mode where space pirates have stations on planet.

afaik im not aware of one OP.

As Dan2D3D mentioned, Earth Planet is a good start. Also Alien Planet, Mars Planet, and Moon Base will provide Space Pirate bases. You will start at a pre-built base that you can modify to your liking. Most are within 5k range of a Space Pirate facility; far enough away that you won't be attacked unless you move closer.

I recommend to try all, even the asteroid only world because they give different gameplay.

+ Enemy space stations in the Star System world are not so easy.

According to the custom starts directory for PC:
Star System custom start has 5 Planets, 3 moons, no pirates.
Earth/Alien/Mars/Moon custom start has 3 planets, 3 moons, with pirates. (No Pertam or Triton)

Thanks - is there any way to spawn in with just essentials (aka no base), so it can feel more like a survivor start?

You can go with Star System start and begin with a lander and go from there.

Less than that will be a challenge because you won't have anything to use to refine ore or assemble components. Take over pirate ships.... or grind down the unknown signals....

Keep in mind it's a sandbox game where we can do all we want.

Example :
I create premade worlds setup to my liking, I like to add Uranium and Platinum mines on all Planets with enemy Drones spawners protecting those ....

I can tell you A Lot can be done in this game.

What i want to achieve is a world that has pirate settlements as well as stations, but still starting with only the earthpod. I don't know how to start a world with only the earthpod, except with Star System start which doesn't have pirate settlements.

Essentially, I want to use Star System start, but i still want enemy pirate stations on planets to spawn. Is that possible without having to add them in creative?

I think the first able to create and publish a premade Star System world with what you want will get 4 or 5 stars for sure.

We have all the needed in Vanilla to create PVE and PVP scenarios from the creative mode, it just need a creative player adding SPRT Stations protected by AI Drones at all the Rich ore spots of the existing planets and moons to make those Planets more challenging.
