How do you add custom planets to a survival world?
I have been trying to figure out how to add custom planets from the workshop into survival worlds.

Every time I just add them from my mods list and start the world I just spawn with the same old three planets.

So how do I add them to my world. Yeah, I know about the whole "add asteroid ctrl + F10" thing, but I am trying to spawn a survival world with custom planets (where that option is not avalible). How do i do that?

The only way to do it is to paste them into with one of the existing starting scenarios like Easy Start or Asteroids.

1) Subscribe to the the worlds that you wish to have in your game.
2) Create a new game from whatever starting scenario you wish, Asteroid, Easy Start, etc.
3) Edit the settings of that world, and add the planets to the world as mods.
4) Enter the world and access the Spawn menu Shift F10. If in survival you'll need to enable creative tools thru the Space Master menu Alt-F10 (don't forget to disable them when done.)
5) From the Spawn Menu select Planets and then under Generate Seed click the pulldown and select the world to which you subscribed.
6) Click Spawn Asteroid/Planet and Paste it into your world.
Repeate for other planets.

It's far from perfect, but it can be done.

Edit: After clicking Spawn Asteroid/Planet a green sphere will appear. Use your mouse's scroll wheel to push it away or pull it close then left click to paste it into existance.

@casualsailor: He said he wants to play it in survival, which means what you said won't work unless he also does what I'm about to say.

@OP: When loading the world, you can change it to creative; do that, spawn the planet, then change it back. That's the only way I can think of to do what you're asking.

Actually, Space Master mode does work in survival

I really hope KEEN makes it so modded planets just load in.

How many? How far apart? Which ones?

Do you want Keen to make those decisions for you? I know I don't.

Just load your survival world, enable creative tools in Space Master mode, spawn your chosen planet, disable creative tools, viola. You're all set.

Your asking keen to do something?
Expect a half assed job then.

Perhaps just make the planets spawn randomly, with user-inputed information such as a seed and the desired distance between them.

However, that said I do like the control of mapping out my own system. But not everyone has the patience to do so. But is there a way I can save my system of planets so I can just load it up if I want to start a new game with it?

I still wonder what Keen was thinking when they added the cyberhounds...

Probably 'That'll do for now. We'll do more when we've done the important stuff.'

I want a better survival ecology. But AFTER my ships stop exploding.

so you jump though all the many hoops of getting a custom world in....

...... :P just to find it has purple textures.

I understand the difficulty of creating a solar system. I built an Excel program that allows me to randomly generate or enter my own coordinates and visually place then in a 3d vector scatter chart that I can rotate with a button. Once I have the system built I then edit the coordinates in se tool box and done in about 15 minutes. I'm currently on my phone, but when I get a chance I'll share the Excel program and a detailed tutorial to creating custom works with ease.

Thanks to that great idea I did more - I used jump space to spawn planets with my best mate far, far from our platform in Lost Survivor. I think it's a better adventure for us. We will be space explorers.

@RelicSage, do you still have that excel sheet and tutorial? Thanks

Hi, best to create a new discussion because the game was not the same at all in 2016, it was full of bugs and not all blocks/features were in-game at that time.

Players use this Mod now and I strongly recommend to test all Mods one at a time in a creative mode testing world before modifying your Favorite saves.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2789619117

-> It's important to know what we are doing before using.
I always read the item description and test one Mod at a time in creative mode testing world before adding to my Fav saves.
I test first because removing a Mod we don't like can end breaking the save.

____________

Note

Keep in mind we lock +3 months old discussions because the game is not the same after a update where old disscussions may contain false information, discussions that don't have any activity so no new posts since 3 months. also to avoid community reports about "Necroing old" and it is in the forum rules added to pinned green messages.

Never be shy to create a new forum discussion if you want players help, one problem at a time so all players can help on one idea/problem per discussions that matches the game version.
