Due to occlusion (not rendering what isn't on screen) decreasing the size of a planet wouldn't help all that much. You can spawn in smaller planets with shift+F10 though.

If you're looking for better FPS, try disabling flora is the world generator options.
On already existing worlds, you can use F12 (I think it's in performance or something) to delete trees.

I like the size of planets in another survival game, Empyrion and wish SE would reduce the size of their planets to allow for a much more variety of planets / systems (playfields) to work with.

I swear if SE did that and added in hostile NPC drones / NPC's (besides those bionic dogs) then this would be my go to game for MP survival. My biggest issue is current size of planets in all the MP servers that lag out terribly in both solo and small group in MP (as I have seen in current MP videos).

warning tho making planets moon size changes texture layout for them flat open aeas on large planets will be jagged faces on moon scales

you know you can spawn in your own planets at the size you want?

Empty creative asteroid world as example, then I think the key is CTRL or ALT and f10 and the menu pops up to spawn planets/asteroids.

ok serious answer.. why not just delete the planet (ctrl x in creative or space master) then play on the moon?

Amen. Still remember the exact opposite when they were revealed, the questions about them being too small.
