Are Servers Still Really, Really Laggy?
I bought and tried Space Engineers a few months ago but playing multiplayer on servers, which was how I wanted to play, was extremely laggy. To be fair, I am asking about larger servers with larger populations cuz I like to have a lot of players to interact with.

It depends on the server and how many people are trying to cram into it. Better hardware can handle more people and mods. Most try to go cheap on the hardware, or cram in more stuff than the server is really capable of.

So very true. My group have put up our own server, Decent hardware, runs real nice
but... Will still lag if we get greedy...Lol
Remember there is allways a limit...

I just started playing again after losing interest in the game for this exact reason, so i tried it out again and it's still unplayable as a multiplayer experience. If anyone uses rotors/pistons or spams drills they can pretty much cripple an entire server, and they did on the 9 -10 servers i tried. Pretty much every server requires constant restarts which stops all your crafting ques and ♥♥♥♥♥ with your power settings.

This game has not improved one bit since i last played it 7 months ago.

We just started SE on a server that we're also running Minecraft on. We took a look at memory usage as SE came up and made the decision to get more RAM in.
Of course, we're using a proper dedicated box, not any kind of shared server. Yup, it takes money, so we all chipped in. Life's just much better this way.

Damn, that sucks. Sounds exactly like my experience back when I tried it.

Sure it has, there are server options (Server setup) to limit such behaviour. Enstricting blocks to a certain number eliminates "spamming" ♥♥♥♥ that crashes the servers. The only thing that did not evolve is the skill of the server admins.
depends on the amount of ( Mods, Player Total, World Size, Complexity of objects ETC )
all of these can play into the Lag
Restarting the Server can fix a few things causing lag

If u also go around and remove the unnamed grids this can also help a bit unused and unpowered grids still calculate collisions but u may need 2 b admin for this unless u do it 2 grids that u own be sure 2 name the grids u wish 2 keep in the info panel of the grid so u dont accidently remove them

another way 2 help the server would b 2 impose PCU Limits
