Trains in space engineers
Will there ever be trains in space engineers one day that dont require insane skill to build wheel bases and tracks but a simple track and wheels but train wheels.

No because SE builds use a rigid grid/block system. You cant have tracks that curve and hug terrain with a block based system.

This the difference between 1990s versions of Sim City, and games like CitiesXL . One has all 90degree roads and the other has GENERATED roads that use a curve formula only caring about start and end points with the rest being non rigid.

Any rail system will need to require people breaking up grids and thus require skill. You will NEVER get convenient trains as its not supported by game design

================

The sad part of this is that medieval engineers MISAPPROPRIATED the money that was paid to keen while SE was in early access. Money that legally was supposed to go to space engineeres development.

And ME has tracks that work conveniently on voxels. It was a feature paid for by SE players, meant to go to SE dev, that was smuggled to a diff project. And they didnt even backport the feature to SE even after getting it working.

I stayed away from trains for a long time, but they are surprisingly easy once you just get stuck in. Theres also a tonne of ways to do them, some a lot better than others. Im on my second attempt atm and tbh, building the track is thereal pain in the ass bit lol

Its not so much a matter of skill, just use a rotor to adjust by a few degrees at a time, but it is tedious. I really think the train will take less time to make, test and be ready than it took to do the track haha

I dont think we will ever see proper train track blocks unless its a mod. Its just too niche for a space game. Maybe they will surprise us though :)

I don't see why not. But I notice that SE keeps to.. well, space. As the name implies. They don't wanna go Minecraft, they wanna go Eve. Surely because it's easier to make something work in 0-G, just moving 6 direction. =P

And I mean I see no obstacles in adding a system that would move a block in a straight line over rails, and adding 2-3 curved rails that make the block follow a pattern, same as wheels follow any shape of terrain. Just make a curve that's made of 10-20 lines, same as we do now, only as ONE structure. We can add blueprints, why not add a "block" that's 5x5x1 blocks? Or add rail as voxel, why not. Where there's a will there's a way.

The last time I looked (over a year ago) Rails was a mod, not part of the vanilla game.

Masu Bullet train 100ms over 100km of track! FIXED!!

thats how a mod is called with trains

looks realy good

I think it would be a good thing to include. Space elevators would benefit from a rail-type adhesion and propulsion system, perhaps using something similar to the merge block to reconcile the grids. Also, players could try to build a linear induction launcher (might not work too well with the 100m/s limit, but it’d be fun to try).
