Building Tips For large Capital Ships
Hi, im attempting to rebuild a ship i made a few years ago from scratch (due to the blueprint having an error and no longer working) and all ive got is a img to work off and the ships others have posted to the workshop as reference (Star wars Venator)

Now what is the best way for me to go about this? like do i want to design it layer by layer? from front to back? interior workings (pipes/power) or some other way.

Detailed explanations on how most of you go about or even videos would be nice...as alots changed since ive played and built a ship so i assume theres a few new ways to build

I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses with a wide variety of different possible approaches, but if you still have that original blueprint, it may be possible to make it usable again.

Thats the issue the reason i stopped playing was when i went to spawn it in, it popped up with an error and wouldnt spawn it in so i deleted the blueprint and quit the game out of annoyance due to the fact it took me 6 months to build due to my lack of experience and its size...now i cant remember the error as its been years. all i got is the img from when i was showing friends it. wat i do know was it wasnt survival ready, so i plan on making sure this one is hence asking about where should i start....

heres the img (the link should work)

Hmmm... just looking at that, you need to consider a lot has changed about the game since those days, and that may be too big to be used in the game today without serious performance problems... good luck :)

since i dont play with more than 1 other person if that and we both have decent pcs should be fine, now i think my new version may be bigger due to making it survival ready and revamping it. The only things i do know that i want for it is, it to have a a good armour layout, heavy weapons, long range firepower, and to act like a carrier (fighters i havent figured out what im doing just yet)

but thanks for wishing me luck its appreciated

Hi, for absurdly huge Mothership I always place a line on 100 blocks long and do my best for not going over, because I reach the Physical Shape limit faster when over 100 blocks long and not able to complete the interior so I end up with the ship skin only and no more blocks can be added.

Here is a good example about the Physical shape limit reached :

Another player was working on a Star Trek ship that was over 100 blocks long and he lost the creation after making the empty shell so the ship skin only.

All his work for nothing because the ship becomes a "Ghost" when we reach the PS limit and nothing can be done to fix.

Here you can see his Star Trek ship next to one I was able to complete that is 100 blocks long (the red one is OK) :

Basic "rule" for not wasting our time at making a "Ghost" ship where no more blocks can be added.

Its probably best to go from the inside out. That way you know you have room for everything.

If you go from the outside in, Then you may find you have made it too small to fit everything in and have issues even getting the interior done since the outer hull is in the way.

Maybe build the basic shape in small grid so you have a plan to work off for the bigger one.

Physical shape limit? is that not related to the block limit setting?

as for basic shape, ive got 3 venators ive found from the workshop people have made so the shape i roughly know just gonna have to adjust the size i think. When it comes to starting an interior should i start with the engines since i know the fact my ships gonna have heavy armour shes gonna need alot of thrust in all directions

Physical Shapes = the limit per grid the game can support in a world and can be found in the Info Tab of the grid terminal.

The world advanced setting named "Block limit" is used by server admin to control the server Perfo and to be fair in PVP.

I recommend to disable the "Block limit" when playing Solo Offline mode so you can build more and bigger.

I also recommend to use light armor because I made one with heavy armor and the Jump Drive block is not working at all because the ship is too heavy.

is that for 1 jump drive or multiple? cause unless it changed wasnt their some kind of equation you could do to figure how many u would need to the mass of the ship or am i wrong
Dan2D3D  [developer] Nov 28, 2023 @ 5:02am
Jump Drive goes with the total mass of the ship where heavy ships will need more than one to Jump.

Some of my absurdly huge Motherships have 50 Jump Drive blocks to be able to Jump 5Km.

the more we add = the longer the Jump will be.

i see...i plan on using this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2760086069 if it still works...that is so imma assume thats gonna change some things

Here is my heavy armor absurdly huge Mothership :

The Jump Drive block is not working at all because it need so much JD blocks that adds to Total mass and become much more heavier that it is not able to jump at all.

= Jump Drive block not working.

hmm and theres no work around youve found for that? Also gonna have to work out the differences for for some modded thrusters i have

Keep in mind the "Rule" = No more than 100 blocks long to be able to complete it and have a not bad in-game Perfo.

Here are the Mods I use because the Vanilla blocks are not able to make it fly :
