Jukebox - can it point to a custom music folder? (Resolved. Not possible.)
I was curious about the jukebox block. Is there a way to direct it to my preferred (NOT C: DRIVE!) music folder? I think it would be kind of neat if it could play my own music, rather than just the Space Engineers tracks. However, I do NOT want to copy the music to the Space Engineers save folder. (Which already has zero business being on my C: drive in my opinion.)

I didn't have time to play with it (and won't until later.) But I didn't see an obvious way to select another directory when I glanced through the menu earlier.

I don't know how it would be done either, however I Space Engineers uses .xwm sound formats so the first thing it would require is converting the audio to that format and then placing it in the correct directory

Hi, I think the music is here :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Audio\MUS

Transfer your music and you must Convert to .xwm if not so it works in-game.

Edit

Steps to putting in your own music.

1:Convert whatever song to xwm
2:Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Audio\MUS
3:Pick a song to REPLACE with your song
4:Rename your song to whatever you are replacing
5:Remove old song and replace with your own one
6:Play whatever song it was called originally in the Jukebox

Right. So what I want to do isn't possible. Because I do NOT want to copy the music to the C: drive, let alone convert it to "some weird format I've never heard of." Thank you for the information.

It's very easy to do! I did it in their other game "ME", converted all my Mass Effect game music for the test and it worked very well tho the Mass Effect music was not the best for Medieval game!

It's not a question of how hard it is. It's a question of "I don't want the SE save folder on the C: drive in the first place so I'm not going to do stuff to make it even *bigger.*" The fact that it would be a massive pain with deleting and renaming files to trick the game into playing the custom music just makes it even less appealing.

It's less effort to just ignore the jukebox, disable the in-game music completely and use a music player that has actually competent design in the background to play my existing music collection.

I this case your best chance would be to add this idea to the community Votes and see how it goes with the votes and SE programmer reaction mark.

You may have a chance IF A Lot are asking for this tho you should use the Portal search tool to see if this one is already in ready to vote on :selike:

I also find it very annoying that so many games default their save to the C: drive. Why bother having a dedicated Game drive if they're just going to negate half the benefit? All game files should reside in the same directory.

It really isn't the games fault if you dont mount an NTFS folder to store relevant game data to a different drive, that's just people not understanding the features of the OS they use.:steamfacepalm:

It is recommended by Microsoft for security reasons, those files can be shared on the Workshop so use for upload/download.

Following Microsoft's bad advice isn't a condition of being able to link to the Steam workshop. Other games, on Steam, get by just fine while storing mod and Workshop folders under the Steam folder, which is easily moved to any drive you want.

Just because "Microsoft recommends it" doesn't make it a good idea. Microsoft "recommends" that all games should be converting to unmoddable .UWP files that can only be purchased through the Windows Store. As an example.

@EmberStar

I don't work on the game, I am a Tester and that is what I learned from one of the Devs.

The best you can do is to let them know by creating a vote Feedback on the Support Portal.

If you feel there's a point to reporting issues, then you're certainly welcome to do so. My experience when reporting things to game devs (any devs, not Keen specifically) is that at best they'll ignore it unless it was something they were planning to fix anyway.

I've also had the outstanding experience of a dev responding to my attempt to highlight an issue. By specifically calling me a liar and accusing me of "spreading false information." So no, I don't have a lot of interest in attempting to contact game devs.

Care to provide a link to instructions? Because I suspect that isn't something most people actually know how to do.

To be honest, the appdata Saves folder does not bother me at all but you = yes

> Better you do the Feedback because it bothers you.

Tho the game is completed but all can still Feedback to the SE programmer to see how it goes with the community votes and SE programmer reaction mark.
