If a battery is set to recharge it will drain all power avaible, so if there is ANY power it will charge (may be slow).
Yeah, but when i set my battery to recharge mode, the ship just shuts off and disconnected from the connector immediately, do i just need more batteries? So one is on an the other one is charging? Hmm
Sounds like you are just out of power in general.
I think the solution is really simple, but i'm missing something, dunno.
You need more power at your base, or to shut down blocks that draw power on your base (Ref and Assembler pull on demand and will surprise you with sudden power drains).
If a nuclear reactor isn't an option, look into solar. Either way, it sounds like a problem you need to solve.
For me, a small space base with 2 refineries, and an assembler, and a couple few battery ships attached, I would make a 20-24 solar cell array, and I use isys Solar Alignment Script. Its awesome
