Windows turns off the screen, Space Engineer crashes?
I've run into a small issue that I can't figure out how to correct. I wanted to allow my character to AFK while I test a mining and refining station, basically allowing me to get processed ore while I make dinner.

The problem is that after 30 minutes Windows turns off the screen, and for some reason this crashes the game. I have all of the other "power saving" settings switched to desktop mode. The hard drives should never stop, the computer isn't *supposed* to enter sleep mode. I allow it to turn off the screen just to help minimize wear (and burn in) on the screen. (So I'd prefer to keep that part.)

When the screen turns off Windows apparently minimizes all open programs. I prefer to play in Fullscreen. And on my system trying to play anything in Windowed mode results in a decent framerate hit, on top of the fact that I just don't like to play in windowed mode.

I've also tried putting something heavy on the keyboard and just walking against a wall. However this doesn't work. The game doesn't seem to consider the character to be moving (no jogging in place!) and Windows still minimizes (and then crashes) the game.

There's clearly a setting I'm missing somewhere. But I'm at a loss to figure out what. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know some video creators can have a second computer idling for hours to capture time-lapse footage, so I know it's possible to run the game without poking the keyboard every few minutes. I just haven't figured out how.

I'll say disable the Windows screen mode, set it not to do anything so no screen saver and that will fix the problem very fast.

Tho you could report all this directly to the programmer and may do something about it.

I got a similar problem in their other game, where the Windows screen saver was poping in-game and the ME Team pushed a hotfix for it.

That was the bug, screenshot shared on Keen Discord :

I guess I'll just have to avoid leaving the game running when I'm not at the computer then. I keep the "turn off screen after 30 minutes" setting because I'd prefer NOT to leave the screen on all the time. Sometimes stuff comes up and I have to be away from the computer for a bit.

Windows isn't minimizing the game while I'm actually playing. And I believe that "minimize the game when the screen turns off" is a Windows behavior, not Space Engineers. The only programming issue that Keen could even potentially address is the game crashing after Windows minimizes it (which seems like something it should be able to recover from.)

I would just disable when I am playing the game, go do something else... , return to the SE play and enable your Windows screensaver when exiting the game.

That would avoid the crashes if you don't want to send the crash log for a fix, well it is a good solution in my opinion and will avoid crashing during that time.

Not really a good solution for me, since it means going into Windows settings to turn it off, then remembering to turn it on again. It's just a different version of the problem I have now, except I have to turn the power save off and on instead of Space Engineers.

Since I can't see any better option, I'll just keep doing what I have been. Closing SE if I know I'm going to be away, and restarting and hoping the most recent save is good when something happens and I hadn't closed it first. :(

You will do like me, I close the game if I don't play and it's not so bad :selike:

I have the same issue, I have a screensaver (just black) after 10 minutes. When I came back, my screen is half white, and the game is crashed... It's the only games I've ever played who don't recognize 'Full screen' in setting... It's NOT suppose to start the screen saver. Any full screen programs opened stop that feature, but not Space Engineers... I don't understand why...
