Report a translation problem
For example, here I opened the control panel from a device that belongs to my base. There's a ship docked to that base via a connector. In the control panel all the devices belonging to my base are shown as white, all the devices belonging to that docked ship are shown as orange:

Everything on one side of the hinge block is one grid. Everything on the other side of that hinge block is another grid. The game counts them as two grids. That's because they can move relative to each other. Your connector is on the other side of that hinge block. That's why it's orange.
Same happens if you use pistons or rotors. They, too, form grid boundaries and for the same reason: they can cause the parts to move relative to each other.
I too use hinge on one of my Recharging Stations but used to align with all connector positions because some cars are bigger or smaller than others so I need to adjust, like this :
