Piston tops break trying to merge 2 Pistons for a lift
I have spent almost 8 hours total trying to connect to pistons for a lift.
I have tried
1. Merging from all angles.
2. Modded pistons 3 different mods
3. Praying to the skyim havok gods. ( It worked there and i was out options.)
4.Watching countless videos and trying Different merge configurations.
5. Going to creative mode turning off block damage.
6. Capping space engineers to 60 frames which to a small extent stopped the ran out memory crashes.
7. Flown them in with support ship
8. made blueprint dropped it in
Seems to me its the pull of the merge blocks with a balsa wood piston top thats the problem.
Absolutely nothing works for me. I Only get explosions and at best a piston without top.
I am on the star system start world and heres my specs.

amd 8350 8 core 4.0 ghz cpu is with enermax aftermarket cooler left at 4.0
32 Gigs 2133 quad channel dd3 ram
Samsung 6 gbs solid state drive
strix r9 380 4gb gpu
Windows 10 64 bit and 16.2 strix gpu drivers

I'm at a loss as to how anyone can build the things in the workshop.
Is this a planet issue, or is there a setting to make pistons follow the no block damage rule.
My main attraction to the game is automation and rotor/piston contraptions, since I am a diesel technician and a nerd at heart.

the pistons are 11 blocks apart

I desided to not do the witchery involved in two pistons, and after 5 uses it fell apart with no support Uhg. at this point any solution i have thought up is just silly to do for a lift.

pistons are notoriously buggy, you definitely cant merge them because of this.

thank you for the response. yeah i noticed if you like your base, face or any thing else in game dont use those. Its less volitile to attach tow warheads together than a rotor or piston.
Hopefully they can get it sorted i cant see many cool things to do otherwise. Weird part is i have never seen a airtight door blow up.

I still can attach two pistons just fine.
In the past i had up to 20 pistons attached together as well.

So i cant say that it is impossible.

Though using creative sure is prefered due to copy-paste for both simple steps as well as easy backups of your working progress.

However it works in survival too.

Built a "free floating" elevator car with wheels and thrusters to avoid the whole piston debacle. 😎

You should look for the glass elevator mod by MMaster, they do not use pistons as they are built using door script (you will notice they say open/close to operate) and these work great. The pack has multiple extension lvl plates from 1 block to 9 block in hight and unlike pistons they will not go boom when operating on a ship at speed !

Rotors are fine! Don't bully them :P
Just use the offset function at it's minimal setting and you can merge as many as you want.

May I add you as well? :) I'd be rly interested in workarounds for pistons. I can't get them to work or merge. My last attempts ended in horrible disasters

Just try safety lock override on any of those pistons. then let me know what happens. :)

Thank you for the responses Ill try the glass stairs my base is no more the bouncing betty piston platform wrecked it. im up for any work arounds i played skyrim for years so wonky phisics is in my blood. riverwood cart killed me many times lol.

Although with exploding parts ignoring phisics and gravity a piston with a roter and a landing gear to auto lock on the roter would make on hell of a missile. as soon as the auto lock hits the rotor will explode and the piston if intact would be like a bouncing betty inside a ship.

I give up on the pistons and rotors. I'm Just going to make missiles out them every example of rotors and piston in the workshop designs are broken and a physics bomb. I am a diesel technician by trade and i have built thousands of custom machines using pistons. The one thing i can tell you is these are not in any way similar to piston strengths. id guess the will rewrite them at some point. I just hope they do not lose all the gear heads like myself. For a laugh there is a piston example scenario in the workshop try it out the piston with landing gear to retrieve the walkway pops its top off making the scenario unplayable. i laughed so hard i was in tears, since i went there to see why my pistons wont connect.

Last time people build super weapons (container full of explosives), the devs disabled that emediately.
I wonder what happens, if we start building bombs with pistons... Either they ban the parts involved, pretending they never existed, or actually fix things. Let's go and build piston bombs and piss off the fps crowd untill the devs react :P

I Am as we speak a time delayed physics missile. If there is not a right way then ill do it wrong until its possible.
