Hi, one was able using the new AI blocks and created a discussion with video Tutos, you may want to give it a try or have a chat with him !?

i have used them but to be honest they are quite dumb, and slow. what im looking for is one that can go up against players which even with 10v1 they still lose

Just bear in mind, similar to real-life vehicles, a high center of gravity will have them tip over more.

Rovers are not made to be used as Drones so we have to find a workaround to make it work.

I am using the Workshop search tool for scripts and I found a few you could try.

honestly dont think you will get the level of drone ai you are looking for in rovers. unless you build them bigger if you plan on using them for combat. you can have a rover with a drone attached that will act as a 2 in 1. similar to the trailer with the mining rover and detaching cargo pod.

I had some success making an armed patrol drone with wheels pointing down and set to zero friction and giving it atmospheric thrusters. Just build it like a space drone and don't do up/down thrusters. I set up some patrol patterns and let them run. It worked best on ice lakes or flat areas and lasted long enough to let me get to my weapon station when Reavers showed up.

Drones set like this use LOTS of power so either have them come back to charge/get ice or put reactors on them.

Just a few days ago I got a working auto pilot system for rovers. It basically comes down to using a rotor or hinge (turned off with no braking torque) with a remote control block and a gyroscope on it. One event controller to turn left and one to turn right are the minimum needed to handle the steering. I also added start and stop timer blocks so I could start and stop the vehicle. I did run into a problem with the rover speeding up going down hill so I added another event controller to apply the brakes if it started going too fast. I've been running them with a speed limit of 72 km/h but that is because I've been doing a lot of testing on an ice lake. Also, because you can set up actions at different way points, you have the ability to change the speed limit at various places if you need to.

This method doesn't use scripts at all, just vanilla blocks. The hardest part is setting the GPS markers at a height that will satisfy the remote control block that it has gotten close enough to it to continue to the next one.

I got the idea from watching a YouTube video where they did something similar but using the AI blocks to have drone vehicles that would follow a beacon if I remember correctly. It has been a while since I watched it but he made a convoy of vehicles. Theirs also handled avoiding collisions and could even back up but I haven't taken my design that far yet.

I do have ideas on improving it and am coming up with ways to handle things like stopping until the vehicle is loaded (using collectors to pick up items being ejected by a base or ship) and then continuing on its route and doing a similar thing to unload elsewhere. I think I can use a sensor to be able to follow traffic lights to help with avoiding collisions in a high traffic area. Eventually I hope to have a save that I can share with multiple mining stations with vehicles transferring ore from the mining stations to the refining station and possibly adding taxis to take people to different destinations. Might even go crazy and add a train system and shuttles to space as well at some point.

Let me know if you want more detailed information about my rover. I might even be able to put a basic vehicle on the workshop for people to check out.
I made a drone that can travel and avoid collisions, most of the time. Although it certainly is not AI, more just an automated cruise or something. Made it actually steer with wheels, instead of using gyro, and that worked. Even then, I did not really pursue it. It really was a waste of time compare to the flying crafts in ever way possible.

Also this was done by just vanilla blocks, before the AI update. The AI update may have expanded upon things that you could do, like the AI convoy mentioned above my message.

I could actually make an AI-ish rover, especially since I am into scripting. But to be honest, I view it as a waste of time compared to flying craft. There is really no reason to choose rovers opposed to flying crafts aside from looks and satisfaction (and challenge).
