Autocannons no longer target weapons correctly?
I have had very good results with autocannons surgically disabling weapons without too much collateral damage but I now have no results with the setting for 'weapons'. The guns refuse to engage at all. Only the 'default' setting works. Any ideas?

Hi, we have to create a new Bug Report on the Support Portal if it was OK before a game update so they can have a look at the bug you found and be able to tell you if they will fix or not.

All report directly to the SE Programmers :

Support Portal = https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc
(create "Bug report" or "Request help"(Private) or "Feedback"(Petition) on the Portal)

Here some important Data we have to add in the report to help the SE programmer before they ask you :
Bug report Guide

NOTE
No need to use a sharing website like it says in the Bug Report Guide if you use the Support Portal to report, because we can transfer from our Drives over there.

All may use the Support Email to report the bugs found if they prefer :
Email = support@keenswh.com

My suggestion: Test and play with the custom turret, rotor/hinge settings (assuming they're custom turrets). If they're not custom turrets there's very little I know of we can do to improve their accuracy.

In my games the 'weapons' option has seemed to work best with my custom turrets to get them to bring attacking enemies down. Their accuracy is horrible. I've found that extensively testing different settings combinations (azimuth and elevation speed, tensor on/off, torque of the rotor(s) or hinge(s)) improves their accuracy and how they work overall.

Even when I copy/paste the same exact custom turret design the settings they work best at are never the same. I always have to play with the settings to get them working as best as they can. I've not accomplished getting them to be surgically accurate.

Another player reported different problem this month that may be related, we noticed it was all good in Offline mode and "bugged" only in MP worlds.

The assault cannon was working find in Offline mode only :

My experience with them is in offline / single player mode. It's rare I play multiplayer. The default turrets work great (as expected) for me. It's custom turrets that work weird or just plain don't work at all until I find a settings combination they like then they'll start working pretty well.

Are they the in-game autocannon turrets or are they custom turrets?

So, these are the vanilla small grid autocannon turrets. They worked great before and now they don't work...at all. It's not about aim or custom settings. All single player. The guns simply ignore the enemy weapons at any range. They don't aim and they don't fire.

The best is to save with your character in front of the bug, publish that save on the Workshop and copy/paste the item link in your new created Portal Bug Report, this way they can load right away to see the bug you found and be able to start working on a fix ASAP.

I will add :

I don't have a world save with that bug but You have one ready to send to the SE Programmers so go for it so we can have a hotfix faster.

after this comment i undestand he's speaking about single autocannons and assault cannons hard-mounted in small ship, not the turret or custom turret ai weapon subsystem targeting.
ok my brain is desynced :P

wait .... what is bugged? the fixed or the turret?

"vanilla small grid autocannon turrets"
Jack Schitt May 29, 2023 @ 10:53am
Check list:
Do they have enough power? In Survival things don't just need to have a power source they need a specific amount of power in order to operate.

Are they connected to a conveyor system and have access to Autocannon Shells for ammo? Check their inventory to insure they have ammo in them.
Is the conveyor line complete? Check the conveyor line to making sure everything's green.

Any mods?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and none. I've got 600+ hours in game. I know how it works and this has been working fine until a few days ago (maybe a couple of weeks?).
Jack Schitt May 29, 2023 @ 1:47pm
Have you tried testing them in a brand new game with no mods? To spawn an enemy ship to get them to fire you can ALT+F10 and turn Creative Mode Tools on (if you've started the world in survival mode) then spawn any ship from your blueprints menu (F10). Go in to the terminal of that ship and transfer ownership to Pirates. The cannon should start firing at it.

I had a few issues with small AC turrets intermittently not firing in my last save, so it's definitely a thing.. It was always after I had taken control of the turret first, then afterwards it would stop shooting. I never did fully track down what was causing it. Sometimes telling it to 'shoot' a few times would fix it, so you could try that. Another thing you can check is the 'fire at locked target' option (I forget wording) because I think that can cause conflict with the sub-system target.

But really, if it works reliably with default targeting I would leave it in default to save the headache. If you figure it out please report.
Malnaur May 30, 2023 @ 12:11pm
The problem with default targeting is wasting time and ammo on things that don't matter (i.e., not damaging ME) and also causing collateral damage if I want to salvage/repurpose a captured ship.
