IA automatons drones in space
Hello guys,

I searched some tutorials to setup a IA drone with auto docking, but i found only tutorials on planets or moons.

I wish to make a drone in space, but cannot find tutos for this.

I followed a setup for a drone on a planet, but mine, in space, reacts very weirdly.

Have you followed this tutorial setting everything up in space where there's zero (no) gravity? It might be acting weird if you've set it up when it's in gravity and being in space where there's no gravity is messing with it?

Hi, it is harder on planets because Drones have Gravity and Orientation restrictions and easier in space because no restrictions so you should be fine if you have found the solution on planet.

The important to keep in mind is Drones with Mothership Beacon :

To avoid the problem where we can't see the Drone waypoints on screen

\\\/// DO NOT Enable Show on HUD while the Drone is connected \\\///

-> Enable the 3 needed "Show on HUD" only after disconnecting the Drone so you can see the waypoints with the ship antenna and not bound to Mothership's Beacon block.

Info +

The needed to show Drone waypoints is the only problem and are specified on mouse over that option :

+ As usual :

You may share your save here, me and Veteran players will be able to load to help you find a good Engineer solution, just save with your character in front of the Drone that needs to be fixed.

How to share a world save on the Workshop :

1 - Select your save.

2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.

3 - Choose a proper Tag, check Steam upload and click the OK button.

4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

5 - Paste the Workshop item link here.

Thank's for the advices, my drone can dock automatically. Now i have to set up launch and patrolling, attack if there is ennemies, go home if no ammo or few power, and re-patrol when filled and fueled. can i put more than one flight controler and more than one recorder ?

We can have as many blocks as we want as long as the game stays under the block limits, if we don't have block limits disabled.

wait, these are possible? I thought the only way to get them to face their connector dock is to have the dock aligned with gravity and set them to align themselves with gravity. How did you do it?

It's way easier in space because the Drone orientation is saved on creating the waypoint manually.

I have tested in space first and noticed it was easier once I went on planet, harder on planet and I did not found the working solution on my first try.

Not the same in space, it worked on my first try over there :

Best advice
-> Test one block and one option at a time, slowly but surely.

I am now at creating enemy Drones with all blocks set to Space Pirate Faction in space :

The important on planet

Once you know those 2 videos = You are good to add more, one block at a time.

Oh....I had no idea they keep the orientation...I thought the waypoints were just an xyz coordinate. Thanks!

I don't have any experience with the AI blocks but connectors don't have to be aligned with gravity for the remote block. The remote block orients the ship however we were oriented when we set the GPS point if the waypoint is in gravity.

In outer space there is no up, down, left, right, forward or back because there are no forces (gravity, wind, atmosphere) a planet has that an object has to combat to be in motion. An object in outer space stays in motion until its path is obstructed.
That's why, when traveling in outer space once we get up to speed, we can turn the dampers and thrusters off and cruise to conserve fuel and power.

We can make a ship hang upside down or at a strange angle with a connector on a hinge if we wanted to.

Yea lol dude I know, I've been playing this game since like 2017, I just didn't know waypoints stored rotation besides position

You asked.

Wonder why i docked weirdly ? I forgott to disable p. gravity and collision avoidance (facepalm) ;)

Ok, it is better now, i can launch, attack ennemi, return home when hydro is low or no ammo. There is still a problem.
With a hydro drone, the speed is ok, mode drone and manually droven.
With a ions drone, The speed is very slow in auto mode, but when i drive it myself, it is ok.
