Anyone know of some good desert planets?
I'm starting a new game and would like to be stranded on a desert planet at the start. I had some years ago, but a lot of them are outdated (weird graphic glitches, annoying sounds, etc). And trying to search planets on Steam using "desert" as a keyword, doesn't seem to work so well.

The only real requirements are:
1) No Water/Ice
2) Rover friendly (mostly flat with some rocky/mountainous areas to break up the landscape).
3) No Platinum or Uranium

I would like:
1) Low oxygen, but would settle for regular/high oxygen. Just don't feel like constant making and using oxygen.

Thanks,

Reminds me of Pertam

I can never find ice on that rock

Ha! Never thought to look in the base game. I usually start on an Earth like, and once I get into space I never land again.
Safina's the best desert planet I've found but it has both ice (in scarce oases) and platinum. No real way around the small ice deposits, but you could use something like AQD - Deeper Ores to shove the Platinum >400m underground and make it more of a challenge to dig out.

I used to do that, and then I realized, why build all that infrastructure only to completely abandon it? So now I build automated systems and remote cargo carriers and I bring supplies to me. I guess technically I don't "land" either but even expanding to mining in space I still mine on the surface too. All the refineries and assemblers I leave behind keep on working.

That's perfect, thanks!

I plan on doing a more scavenger type playthough so the deeper ores is also perfect. I can just ignore the ice (pretend it's not there) since it is underground.

I really do need to get more into automating drones. I tried years ago and just ended up wasting resources as all my drones crashed into something lol

Do be aware that the pack has a planet and two moons in it. Safina (the planet) is a desert with surface ice patterned as a small oasis. Of its moons, Thanian has underground ice and Risha is a tiny Uranium moon.

You can also get the full system which has a few other interesting planets. I particularly like Caldera, the lava world where the lava voxels will melt any grid or engineer that touches it.

ISL has a good selection of Automated Drones. I use their PAM drones a lot

I'd rather have a good dessert plant, than a bad desert planet. I'm just sayin'...

I shouldn't admit this .... but I looked it up before posting to make sure I didn't get "desert" and "dessert" mixed up lol

I also have to look up "quit", "quiet", and "quite", or I will type the wrong one out even though I know what they all mean :D

Over there is where they're getting their information. The fun is endless.

Pertam has plenty of ice. You just have to know where to look. Ice tends to be located near mountains, especially near groups of mountains. There will either be a grey patch on the ground or a lot of green grass over the ice. There's just not lakes of it lying about.

Finding gold and silver will be a bit more of a challenge. There are some maps out on the internet that'll show you where all of the deposits are if you decide to give up looking for them. But I like the manual challenge.

I like Pertam on public servers because most people hate it. The thin atmosphere and heavy gravity makes it much more challenging for basic players.

I know that this may have nothing to do with this discussion and only this comment/reply, but I'll continue anyway.

Automated drones is useful and saying that sounds like an understatement.
You can have drones that fly cargo/fuel/whatever into the stratosphere so your space-ship could pick it up without wasting alot of fuel or a hybrid system (atmos+ion+or hydro).

I usually make my autopilot drones vanilla because, like Todd said, "It just works".
Jokes aside guessing you are starting on auto drones, I'd recommend PAM. PAM is like drone autopilot but less complex to setup. But even then I find myself using vanilla autopilot for short-medium distances.

Thanks I'll check it out after I get bored with my Raider/Salvager playthough. Basically I only mined enough for a cheap rover, everything else has to be taken from someone else :D So a set up using drones doesn't really fit this playthrough.

Although, come to think of it, scouting out npc bases and then harassing them with cheap drones might be fun
