how to unlock parts?
uh, struggling to figure out what you're supposed to do?

for example, I assume I'm supposed to build some kind of mining ship but I don't see a cockpit part available to make? how do you "unlock" it? how do you know what you need to have built before you can make one? and how do you learn it?

are you supposed to gain the ability to craft the item if you grind and repair it? or was this changed at some point? making all those tutorials obsolete? it doesn't work this way for me but seems to work that way for old videos? what?

Booted up that "how to survive" mission but it just spawns you standing at a moon base
without any kind of pop-up or anything to let you know what to do.

i guess you just play sandbox and spawn everything for hours and figure it out?

ah. under landing leg?

so, you build the landing leg once and that just unlocks the tree?
you don't need to actually use the landing leg connected to anything?

ah. not what I was expecting lol

I see how it flashes "parts unlocked" for a split-second. I think i missed that before doh

thanks Mavo

You don't even have to build the whole thing, you just have to get it functional. In some cases you can grind down something on your spawn pod below functional and then weld it back and it counts. Just don't do that with batteries because you don't recover power components. Also be sure anything you grind you already have unlocked or you won't be able to re-weld it. But simple things light lights and landing gear get you some quick unlocks that way.

Building certain blocks is how you unlock more blocks through the progression system. Grinding down those blocks below the "functional" point, then welding them back up will also work.

Having to unlock things is the Progression part of the game. If you don't want to play that way and want everything available (except what you don't have the DLC packs for, DLC pack content will show in the G menu catalog whether you have the DLC or not) you can disable Progression in the game options.

Enable/Disable progression as you want in the game options inside the Load Game menu, after you select a saved game. Progression is one of the square check boxes at the bottom of that options page. There are different options menus. Which one we go in to depends on how we navigate to it. These options are in each world's settings after we select one from the Load Game screen.
