[SOLVED] SE auto connects to discord???

Looking at my log file I see:

Is this game automatically making a connection with Discord and logging things????

If it is connecting to Discord and logging things how do I stop that? I don't want any thing at all to do with Discord, I don't want it connecting to or anywhere near my network and I surely don't want it LOGGING anything I do. That's the exact reason I avoid going there.

Solution: It was a plugin for the plugin Loader attempting a connection to discord.

Thanks for the responses! I'm convinced it's most likely from one of the few mods I'm running now and it's probably Plugin Loader. I'll run without it next time I play. I only run the CameraLCD plugin from it and my cams have stopped working. No reason to have a mod like that included if I'm not using anything from it.

Discord IPC is InterProcess Communication.
It's trying to connect to Discord to update your status to "Playing Space Engineers", or whatever.
If you don't have Discord running, this will fail, so it logs this failure.

It is NOT an external network connection attempt.

Thanks. I know what an IPC is. They can, and do, do a lot more than that. It IS a connection attempt. It can't get any of the info it's after without making a connection.

For what its worth, I don't have the discord word in any of my Space Engineer log files. Is this maybe a subscribed mod or something? I don't think is a default game link to Discord but something outside of the vanilla game.

If a mod (or whatever) wants to maliciously leak information to some sneaky third party, it doesn't need Discord to do it. It can simply open a TCP connection to wherever it wants, and upload the information there.

The fact that it tries to do Discord IPC tells me it's trying to do Discord-y things, like set a status. If you don't like Discord, which there are many reasons not to, that's fine. Absolutely. It's just not a sign of something malicious that it tries to talk to Discord. There are many non-malicious reasons to do so.

My point was that IPC does not create any external connections. This is not network traffic.

i dont know if this helps but if you play on community servers, some use torch and have a plugin for discord so people in the servers live chat can talk to people in discord (useful for admins)

I haven't played on a public server in years. The only record in my logs is from my last 3 launches which were in the past few days December 12, 2022 to December 15, 2022. Unless something from a thing like that stayed behind somehow I don't think that's where it's from.

It's most likely from the Plugin Loader mod, I think. The authors of that mod use discord for everything.

I use the Plugin Loader as well with a bunch of plugins enabled (Better Inventory Search, Build Info, Camera LCD, Camera Panning, Easy Block Renaming, HUD Compass, Multigrid Projector, No Forced Camera Zoom, Sneaky Sounds, Text HUD API and recently added Whip's Camera Overlay and Whip's Turret Overlay to check them out). Still don't see any mention of Discord in my logs.

Huh...Thanks, Jeff. I don't use that many of the plugins. I have 3 enabled. CameraLCD and I forget which ones the other 2 are.

The responses make me keep going back and forth between where the discord connection report in my log might be from. Either way the log is reporting the connection attempt fails. That's good enough for me. Doesn't really matter to me where it's from my concern is I don't want it connecting and it's not so....all good.

Are your cameras working?
Mine aren't. I haven't investigated why. Could be because the cameras got destroyed.

I haven't used the Camera LCD functionality for a while so I'm not sure. A couple friends and I have been playing together recently using some Stargate mods but we haven't set up any cameras to check on bases on other worlds yet and haven't been able to play together for the past week or so.

I do not have discord installed on my pc & using over 30 mods from Steam Workshop.

I played a little today with plugin loader disabled. I'm still getting:

DiscordLog[Error] Failed to establish connection with Discord ipc!

in my log.
Would be nice to figure out where it's coming from, why I'm the only one that has it but I'm not worried about it since the connection is failing. No big deal if we don't figure out what's causing it.

I'm not able to play for more than a few short minutes. My GPU fan is on it's way out. This game blasts GPU temp up to 98C pretty quickly so I'm not able to mess with the game much or even play until the new fan arrives next week.

Maybe post a few lines before the Discord entry? I'd say the whole log file but you might not want that.
