Lots of hydrogen thrusters.

This was the first thing I used to get off the planet legit the first time.

That was good enough to get me some platinum back to Earth so I could build something a little more sexy.

Think real world rockets, you'll need alot of hydrogen thruster, and even more hydrogen storage to not run out mid flight only to come back crashing down.

Thats not exactly true. Yes, you need hydrogen thruster cause at 5km your atmospheric thrusters won't do much. But you dont need "a lot" of them. Build your ship as small and light as possible. My personal advice would be to have at least as many oxygen generators and hydrogen tanks as you have large hydrogen thrusters that are thrusting you out of the atmosphere. Before you start, wait until your hydrogen tanks are at 100%. Switch off your intertia dampers. This will save a lot of fuel going upwards. Just fire your thrusters occasionally until you reach 100 m/s and wait until you drop at 70 m/s before you fire them up again. This will save even more fuel.

What I normally use is 1 large booster on the back, front and bottom side of my ship. Then smalls in each other direction.

2 Hydrogen tanks and 4 generators. You will need 1 large reactor. I use 4 Medium cargo containers as a storage for Ice/Whatever I bring back to the earth, as well as they are the ports for my Oxygen generators.

Keep your Hydro thrusters off until your speed starts to decrease. Then use only your upward thruster and fire in pulses to keep your speed close to 100m/s. That should get you out into space. Once you are in space disable your Atmospheric and inertia dampeners. You can just coast around at 100m/s to get to where you need to go.

on the earth planets its around 40,000+ meters then you leave the gravity field, i for one use the speed mods for planets cause at 100m/s takes way too long.

thats the one i use, enjoy :D

This mod always makes it much more difficult to fly. You have to relearn all over again. You will also crash a lot of ships. Re entry will become deadly.
