How do I enable mods that I've downloaded for online mode?

I want to use some of the mods that I have downloaded, everytime my friend and I try to play and I host with the mods being on the side that would allow them in the game. It says local mods aren't allowed in online mode. How do I fix this? or is this not allowed yet?

i dont know much about the multiplayer aspect, but is it set up as a local server? i know you can add mods server side and then there shared to all people that join

If the mod is from Subscribing to them on the Workshop and have the Steam icon in the mod list, then it should work. If they are manually downloaded and show the folder icon then you can't use them online.

Guys, my problem is everything work fine. I see the steam Icon and everything but It wont allow the mod itself to be enabled. How do I not host local severs? I normally just click new world -> Friends > Go ??

is it you getting the error message or your friend?

but it realy does sound like one of the addons isnt published right
as for dedicated servers i think thats more of just a different route, but the addons are enabled server side (so your friend could say play your game while your offline (but your pc is turned on)

okay I fixed it I found out that a mod wsn;t from the steam workshop. thanks everybody for the help
