Looking for laziest / most automated entire ship grinding system
I can grind a ship down in a grinder ship, while the target ship is locked down to a station, but the contents of containers fall out everywhere and it is a very "manual" process. I realize I could put some collectors under my landing gear to collect the contents of the containers, but I know the entire process could be more automated.

My dream is after caturing a ship, to fly it into some kind of automated grinding system that will recover close to 100% of the components including contianer contents.

Does anyone have something that works well perhaps with screen grabs or video of it in action?

I've had an idea for something like this for a while that sounds feasible. (to me, at least)

My suggestion would be to create a large hollow cylinder ship with a rotor powered door.

Flatten out and thicken all but the center of the cylinder's bottom.
Beneath the cylinder, set up gravity generators and inside, set up a line of collectors.
Line the insides with inclines so ship parts will roll down to the "bottom" of the cylinder.

Fill every other block on the bottom with pistons and grinders attatched to them.
Make a line of pistons at the top of the cylinder and connect a large platform to them.
(group both sets of pistons for easier activation)

How to use:
Fly a ship in and turn off all it's power.
Close the door.

(slowly) Turn on all the grinders and pistons at the bottom of the cylinder.
Turn on all the pistons at the top of the cylinder.

The ship gets pushed down by the platform at the top into the grinders below.
All the grinders tear away at it and the gravity generators pull the pieces down.
The smooth sides funnel the pieces into the collectors.

I haven't built it myself but I've seen designs like it, so I figure it's plausible.

This reminds me of the Zep Eater from Crimsion Skies: High Road to Revenge.

I've used a combination of a ripsaw and a grinding pit to good success.

Make a grinding pit about 15 grinders long (Base-sized of course) and 5 rows deep in the shape of a V. The middle row, at the bottom of the V, is all Collectors. Next to the grinding pit build a rotor-arm with grinders underneath like a saw. The idea is that smaller ships go right into the pit. Longer ships go under the saw to be cut into bits that will fit into the pit.

I'll try to knock something together to post pics.

It seems you could just make a wall of grinders on one side.. then a wall of collectors with a gravity field aimed toward it opposite of the grinders. Connect them with pistons and just slowly compress the ships between the two walls while 'stuff' falls into the collectors.

It wont recover any components but they can be removed fairly easily by hand or by docking a ship with a connector on it.

With the new blast doors this design will be even better

How are you lowering the doors? Rotors?
