Automated Grav Cannon loading?
So, I'm requesting a little help with a project and I hope this is the right place for it.

I'm trying to make a system that loads a gravity cannon without you leaving the cockpit.
More specifically, this cannon.[imgur.com]

I've tried using:
A revolving wheel.
Pistons to push a sideways magazine.
Merge blocks imbedded in the barrel.
None of them had any real success.

If any of you guys have ideas, please post them below.
I'll try them and see what results I get.

If I use one of your designs, I'll credit you in the comments and anywhere else I show off the cannon.

How about you load the torpedo from the back with a piston

If you're using space rocks as ammo, you can try the item dispenser/dropper/ejector/connector thingey and only attatch it to a storage container that has rocks. Then the rocks will be accellerated by gravity!
If using mini ships or players, then mabe try releasing them from a bunch of landing gear in the barrel?

Pistons should actually work pretty well, as long as the piston push doesn't change the trajectory of the projectile...
You could try a Firestorm approach like I use and load multiple rounds of ammo straight into the barrel then set up groups to fire one round at a time. Easy to reload using a clip and muzzle loading it. Making a barrel using heavy blast door blocks 5x5 you can load ammo into the barrel thats 3x3 using a merge block and the shell wont merge with the blast door blocks.

An early design with the basic concept but bigger than it needs to be: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=289584834

My latest design with a shrunk down model: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=294232357

i have several clip baised designs where you can load a clip of eg: 15 and then fire them off one after anouther. 1 is on the workshop and is easy to use go check it out

Thanks guys. I'll try these out.

I tried building a paintball esque gravity fed hopper once
It fired small ship warheads coated in heavy armor
But like a paintball gun the shots had a bad tendency to explode in barrel

Lol I had a similar idea using a hopper when I started on my first RFC design. Didn't work as well as I hoped, like you mentioned it had a tendency to do more damage to itself than its target sometimes. This is what I came up with and started using clips of ammo.

I just thought up of a way for a multi-shot cannon. Link here[imgur.com], its badly drawn as i just thought of it, but its rather simple. Similar to a rifle there are essental 3 parts. The Barrel, consiting of the grav generators, highlied with the red. The clip, which would house the ammo, which is a two part ammo. This is ment more for survival than creative as power isnt an issue in creative. But the two parts are a mass block, blue, which would be on, but un powered, and a merge block black. These would be pushed up with a piston, orange, in the clip into the chamber, met with the second half, a merge block and a battery, green. The battery would have a sligh charge, and then the firing pin, the piston, orange, would push them together, combing them, and sliding them in the barrel. Since the mass block is now power it will be pulled by the grav generators and sent down the barrel.

There are a few problems with this design, mostly reloading the clip, and ensuring only one of each ammo part is sent into the chamber. But its an idea, one that im going to attmept here shortly

Somebody build a automatic firing belt fed machinge gun.
It is based on gravity breaking the landing gear due to limited force.
However, it needs gravity based porpulsion for the amunition:

Yeah I remember LSG showcasing that build. It was the inspiration for several of my early designs

Without programmable blocks the only things we got into doing anything automatic are Solar Panel Sensors (if what you have can run with jsut a panel) and very narrow gravity fields combined with low force landing gears.
Rotors have to be used to put them items into place for thier firing.

2nd attempt at the design here The clip rides a bit high, but after afew tweaks this should work rather well. Only need to make adjustments on the alignment of the barrel and the clip
