How does cooperative mode for the assembly work?
Title
I'm wanting to know how it works and how I need to set up multiple assemblies.

There is a little box on top of the assembler in the Production tab called cooperative mode, it can be checked or unchecked.

1) Assemblers that have the option unchecked are "Masters"
2) Assemblers that have the option checked are "Slaves"

Whenever a 'master' assembler is set to produce items (more than one), all slave assemblers will try to help the master, by automatically producing items queued in the master's list.

Normally a setup will be like this: One master assembler, and then one or more slaves. All prodution will be queued in the master assembler so that the slaves will help the master.

However, I'll also give my opinion on the matter: Assembler coop mode was added before the upgrade modules. Now that we have the Productivity module, which can upgrade an Assembler to work at up to 4x the normal speed, it's usually not worth it to use coop mode, unless your production needs are so massive that a 4x speed assembler can't keep up (never happened with me since refining speeds are much lower than assembling).

Hmm I've seen cooperative mode work differently, prioritizing ore refining to get the materials needed for assembling the requested components... Now I must test this...

Does the productivity module increase refining speed too? Or am I stuck with making 20 refineries?

Yes. It will improve efficiency yhe more the better not sure by how much tho

Each Productivity module adds +100% speed.

So a refinery with 4 modules (max) will refine at 4x speed or at the same rate as 4 refineries. (it's not 500% or 5x as expected due to how the game calculates the refining speed)

Note that it also increase power consumption by the same rate, so at the end you'll have a refinery that proccess ore at 4x rate, but also takes the same amount of power of 4 refineries.

I don't like to use Productivity modules on refineries though, I prefer the Efficiency modules which increases the ingot yield per ore by 100% (at full upgrade) without increasing power consumption.

I have a mix of refineries some ores are better if you use the efficiency module like Uranium for others like Iron I like to use the productivity ones since you already get quite a bit of ignots and a lot of components need Iron. I still like to use the furnace for Iron, nickel, and cobolt.

Assemblers I still like to use one or more slaves to make some components like Steel Plates, and especially construction components. I do like to use the lowest setting for assembly in the survival settings so even using the modules you might want to use one or more slaves to help with the production of some of the common components that you will need for building or repairing.

If you refine stones when is good idea to use speed module. So you can go through big amount of stone in no time and get good amount of iron nickel and silicon

Is there a way to disable "slave" assemblers in the production dropdown list?

This is a 4 year old discussion. Don't necro discussions please.

But since you have, there is no way to remove the slave assemblers from the dropdown list.
If you need to change the order, you can try what was described in an old discussion.

Or vote for it on the Keen feedback page:

don't necropost old discussions like this, Dan will come along eventually to lock this

That's a ridiculous, backwards rule that doesn't make any sense to have. Forums are for discussions and info. Locking topics just because the old defeats the reason forums exist. This topic is an example. It's not outdated, how cooperative mode works hasn't changed, and it's still getting related, on-topic, questions that haven't been answered.

There isn't a way to do it through the drop down menu. We have to go to them individually and shut cooperative mode off.

they could also just make a new discussion like dan usually says when they locks old discussions like these, they don't need to comment on ones older then a entire year

It's best to have all relevant info in the same place instead of spread out.
Forums are for discussion. That is their purpose. Locking topics just because their old is stupid, doesn't make any sense, and it defeats the purpose of what forums are for.
