Joystick support when ?
it would be amazing game picks up my device but uses it like a controller adding support for joystick would up the fun of the game and things like elite planetside 2 and countless other games prove mouse is just as efficient but it would add so much seems like the foundation is there but not complete

See my post in the Troubleshooting subforum. I got my joystick working in-game by using a mapping software called JoyToKey. Flying a fighter is SO much more fun and "realistic" than using the mouse.
Cool thing is, I can now use my joystick as a mouse. (Use a separate joystick profile for SE.)

when you say joystick you mean like a hotas? because this game has xbox controller support built in and it works just fine. there is even an official controller layout in steam.

i imagine you would have no issues getting a hotas to work by just remapping the keys.

the maps/axis stuff is not there for joystick like you said its more controller based with a lot of unbindable/non existent but necessary key bind changes however it picks up my joystick as a joystick and partially works but is incorrect

There's this suggestion on Keen's support site that could use a few more upvotes, regarding joystick support.

What gamepad are you using? For me it works with xbox360 and d4s(however emulated as xbox360) controllers but doesn't work with Dualsense and I'm not sure about Xbox One controller. I personally prefer Dualsesnse so I just mapped everything using steam config. You don't need any addutiional software. Steam has everything you need and more. I like using real life gyroscopes to control ingame ones. Prepare to spend a couple of hours engineering your layout though

interesting i guess in theory i could legit just use the inbuilt steam big picture stuff this is a good idea if you have a working version of this consider uploading the controller profile or i guess anyone could make the controller profile then just make it public

Yes the steam mapping is very versatile. I'm surprised people even chose other software to map keyboard keys to gamepads. It can be a bit tricky to setup, but it's kinda fun to play with. I'll make sure to upload my setup when I make sure no inut is confilcting and it's comfortable to use. One of the cool things about it is you can make radial menus and regular ones. The challange is to stick the entire keyboard inside a gamepad so my idea was to make a couple of pop-up menus for things that don't require immidiate input. But steam can also do fancy stuff like different inputs for tap or hold, turbo modes, turning a regular press into a switch, emulating analog input and more

see now u got me wanting to mess with IL2 to get the same versatility as DCS

I'd love to get analog controls enabled just so I can have analog style movement on the left stick of my steam controller.
