The ore resource generation is killing this game for me
we have created a few worlds and it's always the same crap. We can spend days looking for a single 1 off resource that just doesn't spawn at all.

some games, never find cobalt

some games, never find magnesium. Oh but we find like 50 separate cobalt resources at least!

it just completely kills the game and it's not fun at all. I'm in rage mode so i'm just going to stop here but it's just such a waste of time to play for hours and hours just flying around at 100 m/s to get 0 results from it.

I'm just so done with this game at this point. and the ore finders are also crap btw. the range on them is so bad and if they were bumped it'd probably help a lot with my primary issue.

but regardless code in randomly placing resources should get optimized.

Hi, keep in mind there are Poor and Rich ore sports to find in this game, a Rich ore spot is where all ores are close to each other.

I rarely use a ore detector in this game because I go play at the Rich ore spots of the game so I can have all ores very early in survival.

Rich ore spot of the game = Where all ores are close to each other.

Keep in mind there are Poor and Rich areas in this game and here is one of the Rich ore spot in space :

Earth Moon ice Pole next to "Dark side" edge
> > Look for yellow'sh spots on the flat terrain over there =

GPS:Moon All Ores:13504.02:144348.12:-109074.79:#FF758BF1:

> Right on top of that ^ Moon Rich ore spot =

GPS:Uranium - Ice:9541.72:175177.81:-110979.69:

Just select the complete GPS line and copy/paste in-game to use and find this area.
(Ctlr+C / Ctrl+V in LCD will add to GPS Tab auto but hidden)

Here the easiest Biome on Earth like planet and I recommend to go build your first station at the Easy Biome of all planets before going at the hard ones.

The best starting place on Earth planet where we don't need a ore detector and no lightnings when playing with weather ON :

A kind Veteran player shared all the GPS coords of Uranium and more around planets and moons that can help a lot, well to avoid the exploring part :

I recommend an extended range ore detector. This one will reach out 50 km with a large-grid ore detector, so it's best used only in space.

I use something a bit more sedate; this is my go-to version because I don't have to hug an asteroid to find ore.

I will add :

It'a all the same GPS coords in all similar worlds so we just have to explore one time to find all the Rich ore spots and keep the GPS coords of the best ones.

One thing that makes survival mode more fun is getting one of the Ore Detector range extension mods. That balances out finding ores quite a bit.

The other thing you can do is use a hinge or rotor to connect a large grid ore detector to a small grid vehicle. That can let you get up and running looking for ore faster.

There is also a "spectral analysis" mod that lets you point a ship camera at an asteroid and you "read" the spectral analysis to find out what is there.

On a planet or moon, find some ice and fill your bottles then fly around 300 - 500 meters above the ground and look for patches of different shades (gray or brown) or just look for boulders. You can then mark them with GPS and drive/fly back with a vehicle.

Even with that, you can have bad luck and not find cobalt or magnesium sometimes.

There is no shame in modifying the game to make it more fun for you, so go ahead and get some mods and have fun!

Good Tip about how to respawn at another area when starting new.

Hit F5 when falling with the DropPod, that will reload the world for you to select the same DropPod and land at another area, redo till you see the best spot for your first station.

Info +
The Earth Desert where there is a ice lake is the best place to build your first respawn station on Earth.

_________________

Do the following if the F5 trick / Respawn at another area is not working, happens when playing with auto-respawn enabled :

1 - Turn Off the Survival Kit on your Drop Pod / Respawnship.

2 - Hit the Backspace key to open the respawn window.

3 - Select the same respawn ship to respawn at another area.

4 - Redo the above till you land at a ice lake, snowy Pole or at the easy Biome of the planet.
Just start on Mars in the Star System map. It says it's "normal" difficulty (or medium or something) and lists the Earth-like planet as the easy one, but it's far, far easier than the Earth-like planet. Ore nodes (boulders on the surface) are everywhere, there's no need to even dig.
In my opinion, the Alien moon, Titan, is the easiest: obvious ore locations, low gravity, a short hop to space, and all ores except uranium.
Took me some time to find the best/Rich ore spots of the game, space is huge but I found by starting at different areas / different planets.

So you must explore at least one time to know where the best sopts are, or ask Veteran players to give you the best sopts if you don't want to take too much time exploring.
Here's the thing. The resources are always in the same places. If you find gold on a planet in one location, then it'll be in the same location when you play the game again. Procedurally generated asteroids will always have the same resources and be in the same location.

Using large grid ore detectors set to maximum distance is the only way to discover this stuff as some deposits are deep underground or deep within the asteroid.

Unless you're using mods. The ores are always there. You just have to be organized and thorough when searching. I label EVERY deposit with a GPS marker. I also use a spiral search pattern to find every deposit or asteroid that I can.
There are some good suggestions in this thread for finding ore. I use the MOD, Radio Spectrometry; with it you still need to actively search for the ore, but you do it by simply pointing at the asteroid with your ship (I use a camera for this), and then analyze the spectrograph. It also enables you to identify ores that you would likely never find with an ore detector.

Edit: of course this method is for asteroid mining. If you are only interested in planet mining, good luck :) I generally avoid mining on planets because (1) the base game does not have uranium or platinum on planet surfaces (you can get modded worlds that do), and (2) it's mechanically more difficult to mine on worlds.

Also if you have Voxel Hands enabled, you can just "paint" in the ore you need.
(Use the [ ] keys to navigate through the materials.)
Heck, just spawn in ingots. Problem solved!

One thing I have been doing is add a hinge to ore detector with 3x3 head then add a battery an antenna and a connector then just pick it up and fly around. i have the antenna set to like 300m so I can drop it on the ground near by while I go mine and can still see where the deposits are. Large grid is absolutely necessary on planets since some of the better ores are 50m to 75m and unless you are in a rover or flying really low you just miss them with the small grid ore detector.
Another thing I have heard, and it seems to hold true in my playing, is that many ores often spawn together. Silicon, Nickel and Magnesium are often together, Silver and Gold are often together and Cobalt and Iron are often together. Sometimes you only detect one of the ores from the surface but when you dig down, the others often show up even farther down.

Hey thank you for getting back to me. I also saw that I can spawn a world with rich astroids which helps a lot for when we leave our planet.

This game is awesome btw. We were just raging cause sometimes you just can't find a critical ore for hours.

Anyways thanks devs. I do really appreciate the feedback and tips.

and to everyone else who had some comments or recommended mods.
