Possible to use remote control while also controlling custom turret?

I've found that cameras placed on hinges and rotors, controlled by custom turret controllers, are far superior to getting a look at the outside world compared to static cameras. I've placed such camera turrets all around the exterior of several of my ships, expecting to be able to use them to remotely navigate.

Unfortunately, when I take remote control of a vehicle using the RC block I lose that control the moment I try to connect to a custom turret controller block to look through the cameras. Is there any way to prevent this? I'd like to be able to remotely control my vessels while being able to also control the cameras giving me a view of what I'm doing.
