Mod update check really annoying
Steam already checks for updates anyway and all it does is give a random chance for making or joining a local save to just fail entirely
It would be different it mods were loaded from a separate service from the workshop but this is not the case
I would like to be able to join a world with mods and not have it deny me 90% of the time for no reason please

I could be wrong, but I thought the game, when connecting to a MP server, would check for mods on that server, and then fetch them from the server itself to insure they are compatible.

I could be entirely wrong about this, but I thought thats how it worked.

right thats for multiplayer
this is for singleplayer
Sorry, I mis-read. When you said join a world at the end, I took it as MP and not SP, that was my mistake.

As for your issue, that is an odd one. I have yet to have a mod update cause a failure to join a SP world. {Yet being the key word here).

I do agree however that the mod check on game load does seem.....redundant, regardless of how quick of a check it is.

after doing more digging tis is a very old issue
found a post from 4 years ago talking about it and the solution is bizzare
you have to copy all the mods you want as local mods instead of steam mods and if its only local mods then it wont update check, regardless of if offline or not in world settings

Hi, how much Mods it needs to take so much time?

Asking because my Modded worlds load very fast once all Mods have been downloaded, I mean it may take a very long time when downloading 2 GB of Mods for example but only the very first time, it only check for Mod update after that first time so faster.

The only time I've seen it fail to load a world because of not being able to check for mod updates was during Steam's Tuesday maintenance period. I just retried and got right in though, so it was a very temporary problem.

I agree it's odd that it forces a check when Steam already checks. It could be because there's non-Steam versions that share the code-base (like XBox), but that's just a guess.

Indeed, it's not a good day to download Mods on Tuesday because it is maintenance day.

though i first noticed this on my 7gb amount of mods at once where it takes 15 minutes to load, i tried with just 2-3 mods and it still produces it after a single time that it happens until i restart the game
while it makes sense for the former, the latter makes zilch, and based on the workaround it only happens with steam workshop mods which have a separate external update check
my humble suggestion is to simply never check for updates when loading a local save, its simply a redundant check that eats up network and requires online connection when you want to play offline with mods

I am not sure they will change that but you may go create the Portal Feedback (Petiton) and share the link here in a new discussion asking the community to vote on your idea to have more chance they select your suggestion as to remove the "Mod update check".

Support Portal = https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc
(create "Bug report" or "Request help"(Private) or "Feedback"(Petition) on the Portal)

I will add :

Your Mods will never update and we have to test all Mods one at a time after a game update to find/remove the broken Mods... + you will have to avoid loading your Modded save after a game update.

EDIT
avoid loading in case it corrupt the save files on loading in new game version.

this is understandable, do saves have a local version number that they were loaded in last? could be a quick and dirty way to give players an ingame warning appropriately

I know we can change game version in the "Betas" tab that a lot use when a major game update breaks some Mods so they can play with their Mods waiting for the Mod author to update his Mod to the new game version.

Edit
Betas list :
- Right click on Space Engineers in your Steam Library.
- Go to properties.
- Go to Betas tab.

what i meant was a single line in the save files themselves that say the build of the game they were last loaded in, then the game checks that on load and see if ti matches current. if higher, warn about bugged mods or content. if lower, warn about possible removed objects.

I don't know if they can do this, you will have to ask the SE programmers from the Support Portal or by Email.

Support Portal = https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc
(create "Bug report" or "Request help"(Private) or "Feedback"(Petition) on the Portal)

All may use the Support Email to report the bugs found if they prefer :
Email = support@keenswh.com
