World file lost and found
I do not have enough information (nor do I even have a log file), so I will not be adding this to the huge backlog on the support site.

What happened was that I was testing how SE fares without internet. For that I created a new world using the moon easy start scenario. After creation, it failed to close on its own (I did tell it to save while quitting). Later, I was able to reload the world and successfully saved and quit again. But I couldn't find it after a third reboot of the game (probably with internet this time). Turns out the world file got filed under a new steam user folder. I don't know how or why. I can only assume it was because of me monkeying around with my internet connection.

TLDR: Incase of missing save, check for new folder under 'Saves'.

Yes it creates a new folder when playing without internet connection.

New thing that I reported on it a few times already.

Edit

+ and we don't see those saves when going online.

Good to know. I guess that the best we can do right now is just manually relocate the save files when that happens.

False. Go look. You have a log file if you launched the game.
The log file and your saves are in the appdata folder.

Open File Explorer and type %appdata%
Go to the Space Engineers Folder > Saves

If ^that^ is "TLDR" you're too %&#'ng lazy.
Very possibly the same reason you claim you don't have a log file and didn't find any saves.
There are backup saves the game automatically makes every 5 minutes the game is played.

Load Game > Select Save > Backups

Hope ^that^ is short enough for you if the case is that you're just extremely lazy or ignorant (by definition, which is ok and more acceptable than laziness).

I sure hope you were joking because:

-The log files were overwritten.
-The latest save for the world file was put into the other folder (Edit: and along with the backups apparently).
-And that attitude is a real stinker.

Your claim that you do not have a log file is absolutely false.
- If you've launched the game at all, you have a log file and the log file has content in it.
- Saved files aren't in Steam User folders. They are stored in the appdata folder.
- Save files can be copy/pasted

Copy the save to the other folder so it's in both save file folders in appdata and it will be there when you launch the game.

I do not have a log file of the event. The one I have is from when it saved to the normal folder.
- If you've launched the game at all, you have a log file and the log file has content in it.
And it overwrites it self every time the game is launched, so, again, I don't have a log for the advent that it moved my world save.

I never refered to there. I refered to under the Saves folder where saves are filed by steam user number.

Just about the same thing I already stated before.

Some of the things you've claimed here are not how the game works. True, all saves save to a folder, in the appdata folder > Space Engineers > Saves, under a folder named as our Steam_ID number. They should all be there. That's the only place they save to.

It makes no difference if the game is played online or offline. The only difference is if the user has cloud saves turned on the save file also saves to the steam cloud if they're playing online and logged in to their steam account with the steam client.

One thing you can try is renaming that saves folder named as your Steam_ID number. Stay online and launch the game. It may be in the cloud which should download if you have cloud turned on and it should make a new folder and download all of your saves to it in that same place in the appdata folder. The cloud is on by default. It's on unless you edited those options.
This is unlikely since it was an offline game but it is something you can try.

It makes no sense that it's not there with the other saves unless the game crashed before it actually created the save file.

If it's not in the appdata folder it's gone. There is no getting it back.

I just verified that I had Steam Cloud disabled the whole time.

I was able to access the save in the other folder when I started up SE again while my internet was still inactive, but I lost access to it when I started started up SE after restoring my internet connection. Also worth noting that the separated save is in a folder whose number is four digits shorter than my steam ID number, and its number is formed by counting up to eleven ("1234567891011"), so I think its name might be a placeholder.

That 1 through 11 folder was added and saves were moved there with the Economy update. They seem to have changed it back to saves saving in the Steam_ID folder again. I assume you checked both folders to see if the save you're after is in one of them. If it's in the 1-11 folder copy it to your Steam_ID folder or vice versa and it should show up in the game to load.

You said it was just a test. If it truly was just a test save I'm curious as to why you're concerned about it. Tests saves are usually expendable.

As stated before; if the save isn't in either of those folders it's gone.

It's not going to come back from cloud for 2 reasons:
1. You said you were running the game as a test to see how it ran offline. We have to be online for the cloud to work.
2. You had cloud disabled.

Try playing offline again. They didn't tell us they moved the saves around with the Economy update, and I'm not aware of them making an announcement that they changed it back to saving in the ID folder. So maybe there's a new save file somewhere now for offline games.
...which really doesn't make sense if they did that and didn't make the game put the offline saves in the same appdata folder. So that's a possibility, but doubtful.

Why do space engineers have a folder for every user, and not just all the save games in one folder. and why is one "save game" a folder with 33 items and not just a single file? FM19 has save files that reaches 300+mb each, and they are a single file.

Kimmaz, that is a good question to ask directly to the Devs when they go live on Twitch :selike:

Here > https://www.twitch.tv/keencommunitynetwork

Also can ask Dev Xocliw > https://www.twitch.tv/xocliw/videos

(he ^ goes live almost every days)

Did asnother test, and it turns out that not only you can access the 1234567891011 folder whilst disconnected, but that is the only folder you can access while disconnected:

Edit: and now that I know how to reproduce the situation (and have more time), here is the log file:

Hey Lystent; the save file folder thing has been in place for a few months now. Been a few times its been brought up.

Easy fix is just to physically move saves between the two folders.

Have issues with worlds with physical mods (block mods, performance, effect mods) loading; but if you only got a skybox in a workd save, there should be no problem loading the workd save in offline mode.

I recommend tagging worlds with offline in the save name though, so you don't get confused on backups, most recent saves.
