How does trash removal work and how to prevent it from deleting my stuff?
I built a rover and I left it at my base while I picked up an unknown signal. When I came back it was gone.

From a few other reports I've seen, don't switch them off, keep them "active".

Easiest way to prevent that (depending on cleanup settings) would be to have the rover powered before you wander off.

Or you could turn off the trash cleanup, and just do a manual cleanup periodically using admin tools...

Is that all? It's going to be difficult to keep my vehicles on while I'm building them in early survival.

Just set batteries to recharge. Saves power but everything is still "on".

Do beacons do anything? I've heard they can stop grids from disappearing. Anyway, I'm probably going to turn trash removal off.

Well, I've not experienced it so I can't say for sure what causes it. All I can say is I don't power things down from a cockpit or seat with the Y key. I have typically shut individual things down to conserve battery life or put the battery in recharge mode. I've been 3-4km away and never lost anything....*touch wood*.

It may just be I have never triggered the trash removal.

Unpowered grids will be deleted.
the default setting is any unpowered grid more than 500m away gets removed.
It is way too strong in my oppinion. II usually bump it up to 5km at least that way you can actually do survival without worrying your battery will go flat and result in your pod being removed while you are off getting more ice to power it up again!

uhhh that sounds like a bug... If your only power source is a battery and you set it to recharge it will not keep your ship powered 0.0
though... maybe that is how they keep exploration ships from being deleted by trash removal.

Many PVP or online servers will delete grids that don't have beacons after a given amount of time. That is more a custom setup for the trash removal.

No, when I say it's "on", things don't function or work but they are not turned off like they are when you press Y or do so in the control panel.

Have you actually tested this? Fairly sure an unpowered ship gets cleared regardless of the reason for it being powered.... though technicly the battery itself would still be powered....

Like I said above, I don't really know if I'm ever triggering trash removal. All I know is how I play the game and that I have not lost anything....yet....*touch wood again*

The default trash removal settings are the bane of my life.
I've lost ships because I flew stright up to get an idea of when dawn was going to reach me X.x

Trash removal checks for a few different things.

Unpowered
Less than 50 blocks
Free floating (as in, not a station built into the ground)
And finally distance from the player (default 500m)

You can check all these settings, and other trash removal settings, and configure them by hitting alt+F10 and clicking trash removal from the drop down menu.

I personally have trash removal turned off in my SP games and only occasionally clean up manually with the F10 menu.

Alt+F10 and "Suspend" is what I need to disable trash removal?
Krow Mar 13, 2019 @ 3:49pm
Yep. You can toggle it off then manually clear trash when you feel like it. I just like seeing the occasional bit of trash laying around my grind pit and the like.

Well. That and not losing an unfinished ship that I forgot to power on.

This is really handy to know, thanks. My question would be, are these "OR" or "AND" conditions?

Edit: Thinking about it, they should be "AND" or else the thing sat right in front of you could disappear as you build it.
