Memory Leak - Fix
Like a lot of people out there, I have had some major issues regarding memory leaks on a dedicated server. Nothing I tried was able to resolve the issue and eventually our worlds had to be reset. I was very close to calling it quits and simply shutting down our server until a friend found an obscure post that recommended software called Advanced SystemCare by IOBit. Now I'm not one for using system optimizing software as most of them are simply crap, but this particular software has a utility called Smart RAM which recycles unused memory blocks. I was EXTREMELY sceptical, but being at my wits end I gave it a shot, and I will admit that the results shocked the every living s*** out of me. Prior to engaging the software our server would boot up an empty world taking up 2.5GB of RAM and it would slowly climb until it consumed all available RAM and cause the server to crash. With the software running the HIGHEST RAM usage I have been able to reach is 1.5GB for roughly 1 second before dropping down to about 100MB. This software has done an excellent job at keeping the memory leak in check. We no longer experience rubberbanding, clipping issues, de-syncs, along with all the other issues we were experiencing as the RAM usage climbed. For the last couple days our server has continued to run smooth as silk. I even went as far as to spawn in several server killing blueprints in an attempt to break the server but it keeps on chugging away. The only issue I had is after spawing in 24 large capital ships was a reduction in sim speed down to 0.8. After deleting the ships, the sim speed instantly shot back up to ~1.0. The other users on the server didn't even notice the event had occurred.

I'm hoping that this post will help anyone who has issues with the memory leak that this game has. I do not use any other feature of this software other than the Smart RAM module. I will continue to monitor the server performance and if this solution does fail at any point I will update this post.

Server Specs:
CPU: i5-4430 @ 3.00GHz
RAM: 14GB DDR3
HDD: 2TB Seagate SATA III
OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard 64-bit

Very interesting and informative post. Thanks!

No problem, I just hope it works for others and isn't just a freak incident

I actually use memory cleaner from Koshyjohn.com and it Has the same effect. Just set it to clean every 5 minutes. I use it in all games. it's literally GOD-LIKE when running in the background of ARK. The windows default memory cleaning is total JUNK.

I agree. I think any memory cleaning software that does what it claims will work, the one I mentioned just happened to be one I had available to me at the time. I was to frustrated to go searching for something else.

Yeah. The guy who designed the one I use, used to work at microsoft. He said he designed it because theirs is garbage. lol

lol. I will be looking at that software as I have issues with IObit and their software. I will also be looking at firing up my ARK cluster(s) again after reading your comment. Thank you Talavar.

No problem man, enjoy!

I'll keep you posted on if this helps me. I'm running only 3 GB of RAM & a 1.30 GHz Dual Core Processor, and I can get the Game to run Smooth at start, but it eventually gets bogged down from Memory Leaks and runs at roughly 1 Frame per every few minutes (Saving & Quitting takes roughly an Hour)

I hope this helps with your game experience, but the 3GB of RAM has me worried. I have seen our server RAM usage spike upwards of 12-20GB per map, but keep in mind I run a heavily modded server cluster for about 5 players max, usually 2-3 online at one time.

Hey, yeah, my Laptop is nowhere near greenlit for minimum Specs, however I'm capable of reaching 30+ FPS sometimes, which is playable. It's only extended play that causes issues.

I should also specify, I'm using 3 GB RAM Total, 1.0~1.5 GB available for Space Engineers before an Out of Memory Error.

I feel your pain. Short of a RAM upgrade I'm not sure what else you could do. I just checked to see what spare RAM I have laying around and all I have is a couple of 2 GB sticks and a few 1 GB sticks which isn't much help. I wish I could do more for you so you could truly enjoy the game

I intend to get a functional Desktop PC to play on eventually, once I get enough Money for it, which likely won't be before 2021, but I'll make it work until then. I'm stubborn, and smart. I even tried teaching myself C# at one point using Keen's Tutorials, which went as smooth as an un-patched Major Update from Keen, trained by Bethesda, backed by EA. I've built Mining Ships in Space Engineers that were more stable lol

Oh my god, thank you so much for this. I have 12gb ram, which is a lil under, but it still after 2min of gameplay, went up and down, making me freeze in place every 5sec. It rarely put me in bad situations (for example crash in to an asteroid), but it definitely made my nerves want to explode. I can now finally enjoy smooth gameplay. Again, thank you so much :))))
