Sorter won't pull raw ore out of refinery
I'm trying to set up a basic ore prioritization system for refineries. I have sorters going both in and out; when I want to set an ore as a priority, I want to drain all other ores from the refinery and fill them with that specific ore.

But it doesn't seem like the sorters can pull ores out of the refinery. What's with this? It's pulling the ingots out just fine.

They wont.
It is intentional.
Refinaries wont give up ore they are already refining. you'll need to use scripts to get them to do that.
So you want to have your refineries process all the ore put once you gathered like a huge amount of one ore, you want to prioritize that while clearing all the Refineries of the existing ore.

Like Loues said, thats not possible unless you use scripts.
For a different solution i would recommend you to build more refineries and designate several refineries to one ore(via a sorter) and block it from entering the other refineries.

Well I was going to have to write some code to do this anyway. This is just an extra part I have to write. No big deal I guess, I just think it's silly that they made refineries work this way

It works this way so refinaries don't constantly nick ore from each other.
the sorter uses the same pull requests to get stuff through it.

All you need is a simple quest to clear all ore out of all refinaries then you can let the sorts pull stuff back in.

You should sort the ore before it goes into the refinery...

Here is a video that will do what you want without scripts using vanilla SE, the guy in the video is using mods for the purposes of keeping it compact that isn't really necessary but it basically will show you how to do what you are needing to do using porters blacklisting & whitelisting stuff.

Its probably a good system, but since most of my mining trips only gather 2-3 different types of ore, Id rather have all my refinieryes used for all ore types. The system in the video would have a lot of idle refinery's, unless you visit 3-6 different asteriods each time you go on a mining trip.
I currently have 52 refinery, and 25 arc furnaces. And It still takes many hours to process one full mining ship worth of ore.(the ship has 6x large containers large ship, with 10x refinery speed and 10x inventory size.)

If the TIM system isn't good enough, then in that video you can modify it to work with ore as he is using it for assemblers, use the timing blocks so all the ore doesn't go into 1 refinery, he explains how to do this in pairs if you watch the whole video.
