How to control pistons etc. with keyboard
I found an option to control mechanical blocks with movement keys (forward/backward, roll, pitch etc.) and I also ticked the control seat to control mechanical parts, yet nothing happens with those parts when I give the corresponding input.
Why is that

Unless its a new addition, i dont think this is a vanilla feature, you would need/are using a mod. Something you can do is put a gyro+remote on the last subgrid, then you can use your mouse to control it :)

Hi, I add Piston block to cockpit or remote toolbar set to increase velocity + decrease velocity on Piston to stop it so to lower the velocity to 0 and it works :

Info + About the Building arm screenshot in my previous post :

-> We must add a gyroscope to the subgrid part where the cockpit is to be able to move that grid using mouse but the rotors must be properly setup, too...
Just think like if it was a real ship you place there and you will be able to control with mouse.

I think all Veteran players knows that one, piston landing gears is not working, well we also lose some features when using...

To help the OP = No need to control landing gears
-> Controlling a building arm is not a easy thing, too, but I can tell it's better to do/create it in space for example, build a complete small ship that will connect to station rotor arm, set all rotors free so to control the connected ship using remote + keyboard and mouse.

The script linked by Skuzzlebutt should do what you want, this mod here should as well in case you don't want to use scripts.
