Space engineers doesn’t support the steam deck but it is understandable
Because the steam deck doesn’t have 64GB of ram because space engineers uses 62GB of ram on my pc

Hi, I can tell SE used no more than 2 Gb RAM in my last game log playing in a world where there are ships and stations on all planets.

I can share my PC specs + setup so you can compare with your PC :

I play all game options on default + Default Medium graphic settings.

Motherboard ASUS P7P55 LX (10 years old)
Intel Core i5 cpu 760 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz (10 years old)
RAM 16 Gb
Sys. Win10 Pro 64 bit (updated from Win7 Pro)
One Monitor = 1680 X 1050
2 X 1T hard Drives, C: and D: + game installed on C:

Graphics NVIDIA Strix GTX 1050 Ti
Driver I use = 456.71 (not up to date)

I will add :

Reading about what is Steam Deck = They say it can run all Steam games in our Library.

So it looks like it should be able to run all !!??

Maybe report to Steam support, it's in Help on top of your Steam app.

I run it at 4K max settings including max render distance for the trees and grass and not only does it use 62GB of ram but it also runs at 10 fps or lower

My specs are
AMD RYZEN 9 5950X
RTX 3080TI
64GB of DDR4 3600MHZ CL18 ram

Maybe try all on Default Medium graphic settings to compare and see if better.

My PC is +10 years old and got a better Perfo than yours.

They have tested it for steam deck compatibility and it is in the unsupported list of games my guess is that space engineers doesn’t like the proton compatibility layer

So the Steam news saying it can run all games in our library is not true ??

The steam deck is based on Linux which for some games is a problem and no I don’t have one yet because of supply problems at the moment

I just used the Portal search tool and noticed some created the vote Feedback (Petition} and the SE Dev added the reaction mark as

>> Not Enough Votes <<

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/23633-steam-deck-support

I recommend to go post a good reason why it's needed with your vote to help the members asking for it.

It is only render distance that seems to make the game use up to 62GB of ram maybe you can explain why that happens

Current proton compatibility seems to be better than it used to be.

I don't know much about Linux, maybe SE doesn't like the specific distro the Steam Deck is using.

No, I am not a SE Programmer and not a SE Dev so I could not say why.

Note

In case you don't know me I must specify :

-> I am not SE Dev but Moderator community helper/game tester and the SE Devs gave me the [Dev] Tag so I can be admin of the Workshop to help more.
(Steam Moderator Role can't be admin)

I also collect the most talked about every months to add to my monthly report to the SE Team, and I help the SE community cause it's my Fav sandbox game on Steam.

Currently runs flawlessly under Proton. Some tweaks need to be made which means it will not be verified easily for Steamdeck. However, it runs on surprisingly little ram for what the project is, and I have high hopes that it will work quite well on Steam deck, accounting for the lowered graphics settings because you aren't seeing the higher detail on a screen that small, if you're using it in a handheld configuration.

This claim has already been discussed in Linux gaming circles. The steam deck *cannot* run all your games, especially certain games that involve anticheat but won't let Linux run the anticheat (For example, Bungie being absolute bellends and refusing to do allow it). However, in the vast majority of other cases, if you can run it on Linux (SE Runs almost flawlessly), you can run it on the steam deck if it meets performance requirements.

I have games in my Library I can't play because I use exclusively Linux. If valve had everything working for Linux, then I'd be over the moon, but it's just the fact of things. Some developers are tools. SE already should be fully functional though, with some tweaks.

@Fluffy Bucketless Pocket Dragon

I got that part already, all the news we can find about it is not really true, so it can't run all Steam games in our library.
(well using Google to find news about Steam Deck)

Tho I saw one news where they said it was possible to install Windows on the Steam Deck, but not really sure if that is true, too ;)

According to valves testing space engineers is not supported on the steam deck for some unknown reason because valve doesn’t really tell you what the reason is unless it is because of anti-cheat or the performance is bad on steam deck but they don’t say why space engineers doesn’t work
