transfer ores from stationary drill to cargo container
So when exactly are conveyors used? If I put two cargo containers together as long as they touch or attached I don’t need conveyors correct? So when is the best time to use conveyors? For example if I set up a mining drill and I want the stone that the drill is mining to be transferred to my cargo containers? So I would attach conveyor tubes to the position and attach drill to piston and the ore will travel from the drill through the conveyor tubes to My cargo which in turn will put it in my refinery if my cargo is attached to machines right? Is that correct? Sorry if my question sounds confusing.

Everything needs to be connected via conveyor tubes/junctions. Drills will automatically unload the ore into cargo containers and the refineries will automatically pull the ore if everything is connected.
When exactly are conveyors used? Depends on the situation, but mine is usually when I want to have items move through an area and putting cargo containers in between are silly, which is most of the time. This question doesn't come up that often....

You could have this, but managing it is a pain:
Drill--SmallCargoContainer--SmallCargoContainer--SmallCargoContainer

Better would be:
Drill--Conveyor--Conveyor--Conveyor--Conveyor--LargeCargoContainer
- All devices that extract resouces will automatically push them into devices or containers until no free space remain in those.

- All devices that refine resources will automatically pull them into themselves to process in the order they find them in the source extractor or container.

- All devices that use resources to produce something will pull them only on immediate demand.

- All container blocks are passive and will not pull or push anything on their own.

- Conveyour Sorters are used primarily to push items into containers, or to prevent items from being pushed/pulled by devices that do it automatically. Each individual sorter can only work one way and blocks all item movement in the opposite direction.

- Conveyor Tubes are completely latent, meaning they cannot contain any items and don't do anything with them - they are there simply to physically connect devices, containers and other conveyor blocks into an interacting network.

In your case, you just need a conveyor connection between drill(s), container(s) and refiner(ies). PIstons, hinges and advanced rotors all work as conveyors and connect those devices.

The Drill will push everything it mines into Refineries and Containers unless there's no space left, then the rest will remain inside.

The Container will accept ores from the Drill passively.

The Refinery will accept ores from the Drill passively, and will pull ores from the Container automatically as long as it is active and has enough power to process them.
