Place the thruster then conveyor connect it to a Hydrogen Tank. Make sure it has power and that everything shares ownership.
Survival:
Place the thruster, conveyor connect it to Hydro Tank, and conveyor connect the tank to a, Oxygen Generator. Fill the Generator with Ice and let it convert ice to hydrogen.
Once the tank gets at least a bit full, you can then power up the thrusters. Beware, they consume quite a lot of hydrogen, especially if you're in a planet, stockpile ice and fill several Hydrogen tanks for prolonged flight.
but considerin that the hydro tank for large block ships is rather massive. . .
