Lightning Striking Me 100% of the Time?
I am new-ish to space engineers and I was working on a ship when the whole area around me exploded and I died. I thought it was a weird bug when I was building so I reloaded and waited a little bit away from my base to see if it happened again. This time I exploded and then I realised it was lightning. Since then I've been struck every time I reload my save, and I've tried to build a shelter for myself before the lightning hits but it still kills me. Lightning rods do not work either.

I would just keep playing but this seems really broken, is there a way to disable lightning/weather to stop this from happening?

Hi, the weather is a Mod added to the game after a lot asked for it.

The weather option adds more risk to the game, it adds easy, medium and hard biomes so I strongly recommend to build your first station at a easy Biome to have a Medic room in a safe area before building stations at the hard Biomes.

Example :
Do not go to Alien because there are spiders and lightnings = Bad move to build your first station, you better have a Safe Zone block in your containers before going on Alien planets.

You should read the Official Guide made by the Mod author working with the SE Team :

Here is my best lightning Rod concept :

I will add :

A lot wanted to have hostile environments but not all and that is one of the reason why they decided to add that weather Mod to the game as a ON/OFF option.

= So players can have new challenges, as to be able to survive in the hostile environments (hard Biomes) where the lightnings can damage your shtuff.

+ Using a Mod that disables the lightning is a bit "over reacting", well in my opinion because why would you want to play with more risk if you don't like it?

Edit
Sorry I made some corrections.
+
A lot were saying :
"We build a station and nothing happens,
>> nothing breaks to have reason to Move / Build / Repair"

I am curious about the rods you used (block type(s) and grid size(small or large blocks)).

I've been reading reports that suggest lightning may be performing rather iffy, but the more data, the easier it is to be sure about what is bugged, etc.

Why not disable weather in game settings until you feel ready for it?
Weather doesn't add anything to my games, so I disable it most of the time.

You must be very attractive.

I am, thanks for noticing.

Question, do the tires really help at all, I know in the real world rubber is a very good insulator, is the game treating rubber the same way?

Doubtful because there is no definition of rubber in the game, but then decoys really shouldn't attract lightning either.

This isn't the real world, Neo.

I have noticed the lightning hitting wheel a lot and that can be explained by :

> Adding more grids here and there around you and your station will lower the risk of getting hit by lightning, well that adds more grid for the lightning to hit.
+ Only one grid in a area = the lightning will hit this one for sure cause nothing more is there to hit.

> Car wheels are grids so that is a part of the grids surrounding your area, so a grid will be randomly selected when lightning stikes and worst if not moving cause lightning does not hit moving grids.

The best is to have a lot of different grids around you so the lightning will not have only one grid available to hit = reduce the risk by adding a lot more grids.

I won't even bother to explain why this is completely incorrect and unhelpful. It's like saying the best way to not scratch your car is to have so many cars that the one you like wont get used, therefore will not get scratched.

@Just Sam

It was just a opinion on the cause, noticed after I tested that weather Mod a lot.

But there is a easy way/trick to reset to clear weather in-game and you can find it only by playing with weather ON.

Hint
>> Weather adds a reason to move and doing so will give you that "trick" :)

Edit
(change Biome)

I always have clear weather in that above world because I have 2 stations, one at the Desert Biome, that is a Ice Refinery, and Forest Biome with Ore Refinery, so I have to change biome a lot and that resets to clear every time ;)

Based on just all of what I've read, it would appear to me that the only viable way to withstand the lightning is to just avoid it altogether (going into safe biomes, turning weather off, using mods to cancel out lightning damage, teasing the weather into stopping). I say this as I've been reading that even self-repairing decoy towers have issues because decoys are not working as they should.
Now, there was feedback for something better some time ago..:

Keen, please do something!

There is always 2 ways to see things ;)

For me it adds new hostile biomes so I can move to build new shtuff, because there is no reason to move, build undergound stations and Safe Zones when I play without the weather.

Edit
Hostile environments = adds a place where damage can be done by "nature".
+ No damages at all = the easy biomes.
