Question on using CONNECTORs in hotbar
I have a connector pair im trying to use by hotbar in control seat. I want to be able to lock it and unlock by hitting a number. I used SWITCH LOCK and it just keeps saying READY TO. but never locks. I manually locked it then tried unlock by hotbar... and did not work. When i try it by hotbar i also get a blue color ring on connector itself. Not the normal green, yellow or red normally see.

I have a bunch of connector pairs for different parts. and would need half dozen hotbars if have to use the lock and unlock actions on bar :-(

So any way to fix it so i can use one hotbar slot to lock/unlock each pair?

For the connector ring : Black=Off, White=Nothing near, Red=Cluttered, Yellow=Ready, Green=Connected, Blue=Recently disconnected (not magnetized).

You will probably need to provide more information or screen shots : What is usually happening when the toolbar was set up, the player selects the wrong half of the connector (choosing the station side connector when on a ship instead of ship side connector). When you manually locked and hit the toolbar, did the toolbar say switch lock or something else.

I closed game as headed to bed. But ill post a pic later today if need.

There is only one "ship" this is a "brace" for a folding drill arm.

Both connectors are on ship and in same pairing. when i fold the drill arm i have connector on rovers roof and one on bottom of drill arm. Its to stabilze drill arm when driving around.

What i did was hit G when inside a control chair
click on GROUPS
Find my connector pair and drag to hotbar
a window pops up and i selected SWITCH LOCK
i then closed that menu
I then click on connector pair to switch from locked to unlocked and nothing happened.

I then did same for unfolded drill connector set. i manually unlocked first set so arm would rotate.
Then when was fully rotated i clicked on SWITCH LOCK on 2nd pair and saw blue ring and then nothing happened. i waited a couple mins... and nothing. When i then "while in chair" went to K menu and manually clicked on 2nd pair they locked instantly. But when i hit hotbar for SWITCH LOCK to unlock them. Still nothing.

That sounds like the issue, you grouped them, do not group connectors ever. They are likely trying to lock and unlock at the same time via this method. You will need each connector seperate but can keep the switch lock method.

Also you might have a problem in the group definition for connectors. Again, more details. Connectors probably don't need to be in a group, and that might be the cause of the problem.

Just did a quick and dirty check, when you have 2 connectors on the same group (even via sub grids) using the switch lock method will result in them turning blue. This is because both are trying to do the opposite of each other.

Connector 1 is trying to lock and connector 2 assumes its locked and will try and unlock.
Connector 2 is also trying to lock while connector 1 is trying to unlock.

Take them off the groups and make sure to label them well, while you will have to have several connectors on your hotbar you can still get away with using simply the switch lock.

Below are my screenshots the first is grouped the second is when using only one

Also i tend to put the connectors on the toolbar when my ship is not connected this way i know I'm getting the connector on my ship and not from the thing I'm trying to connect to

Same, but the OP has multiple connectors on a single ship and is using them as locks so they all appear anyway which is why labelling is important, my current ship has 7 which all start 'Connector' then reference their location or function so they also all appear in a group anyway so Connector Front Hanger, Connector Rear Hanger, Connector Right Valve 1 ect

Ah Frag2k4,

Oh ok that makes lot of sense. Sucks though lol i have 3 main "sections" folded brace, rotation arm, extended brace for each section. this would make it 5 slots on hotbar per section :-(
Hotbar would look like....
1 connector, 1 connector, 1 rotor, 1 connector, 1 connector,
in the slots.

Ohh wait!!!! Instead of connectors "I like how they look when used for this purpose" i could simplify it by using landing gear? I got the AWG weaponpack with all the tank parts and such. It has slim looking landing pads. I just realised i could use those. would reduce overall wight to i think?

I just got his large pack and havent even use it yet. But I do thank you on the connector info. Seems i need to move from using it for this current purpose. But it does help with docking ships/rovers later on. So not completely wasted your time :-(

Thanks for the info and help and your time :-)

I'm off work on the sick so helping others is a good use of my time, never a waste if I can help.

I think same way as well.

What im trying to do is make a large "100x50 small block in size" rover. Thats a mobile factory, main base, ship hanger, and mining platform all in one. this way where ever my miner is.. its also my main base of operations.

I plan to later on make a landing ship to lift it off planet and transport it to next planet. And to only need 2 "ships" to move around and get things done. but thats later.

So with that in mind. I need a universal setup. So can move/mine on flat ground as well as on slopes or rough terrain. My rover can move huge weights and steep hills. It has 5 sets of 5x5 wheels on each rear side of rover. "so 10 5x5 wheels on each side on the rear. And for steering has 2 sets of 5x5 wheels. I hope to switch to tracks soon." The rover has speed over all terrain i could find even gullys. and it does very well. So i have the mobile part of platform going good.

Now what im working on is stabilising the platform when mining. As well as building a folding drill setup. One one hand needs to be as compact as possible "if want to fit into a lander later" while also being large enough to do huge amounts of ore at time. I do have the actually drilling script ready. Just need design the drill setup lol

I can post a pic of current monstrosity if like lol

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2420923840

Its not finial setup. im redoing drill as rotors on the vertical setion with drills on it to heavy to rotate to folded postion. But can see on ground how large a shaft it does :-)

I just set automine script to step 8 "its little to high otherwise and makes wasted rotations" then walk away. come back in 10 mins to kilotons of ore lol it goes so wide and deep the script takes 2 hours+ to run full course.

But pic does give idea what im working on in this thread. "I have couple other threads going to with other questions".

Sounds interesting but when you say large small block I assume the tiny blocks yes, because if so the refinery and assembler group (minus survival kit) are large grid only, you would have to cheese the rover with an advanced rotor and large grid head connection to get that to work.

I have a mod.. well couple mods actually. they add small grid versions of lot of things.
