Warheads not detonating on impact?
I have warheads on the front of my missile, but they never detonate when they hit anything. (The warheads are armed). Am i doing something wrong? Going to fast? or is it a general bug.

so... i had a similar thing happen and i found the cause. Do you have cameras in front of the warheads? What ends up happening is the impact causes the cameras to get destroyed, but space engineers physics carries the damage over to neiboring blocks. This "insta kills" the warheads before they can take their own damage from impacting the target. You should always have warheads being the first thing that hits the target OR have multiple as a backup.

As it turns out it was the camera stopping the war heads from exploding. While a simple design change can fix this, and I don't really mind it. Are there any plans for warheads to be encased in armor and still explode? Like Lystent mentioned LG could still explode encased in light armor, but what about small grid?

Im not sure why they are not detonating on impact if they are armed, I'd suggest you put a sensor on the front of the missile set to detonate the warhead when it sees something a meter out or so.

You could also put the warheads in the center of the missile with the front end designed for deep penetration, set up some sensors around or behind the warheads so they det inside the enemy ship.

Edit. Sorry i couldn't help with your exact problem, hopefully my suggested workaround works well for you.

Never heard of that happening for armed warheads, I'd suggest the same as Tom, put a proximity sensor in front of them. It'll cause wider spread damage anyway.

Hi, I can see some "similar" old reports but the members reporting never replied to the SE programmer asking them to share the world save with the bug in, so they closed the report with reaction mark as "Won't fix" because they were not able to reproduce the bug.

I'll say, share more clues about the world you play in :
> Is there Mods in?
> Have you tried in a new created No Mods world to see if it happens in all?

____

or maybe share that save with bug in on the Workshop so I can try and send it to the SE Team if needed.

How to publish a world save :

1 - Select your save.

2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.

3 - Choose a proper Tag or skip all and click the OK button.

4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

5 - Share the Workshop item link here.

It's been a chronic problem for me. But, then again, I haven't recently tried it. Maybe something's changed.

Its the damage system most likely. If a armor block breaks/deforms too much most likely anything near it deletes from existence. Also doesn't help that Warheads got nerfed so they don't stack when they explode, one will explode and the explosion will delete the rest within the explosion.

You would have to set it so the warhead is the tip of the missile or use sensor

I know that's the truth! Why warheads won't daisy-chain and detonate sequentially or at the very least simultaneously when one warhead detonates is disappointing.

Sounds like more "adaptive" sim quality nonsense to me, but I would need to test to find out for sure.

Oh! That ^ is a test the OP could try!

bosshi12,

uncheck "Adaptive simulation quality" from the world Advanced settings to see if that will fix the problem.

Perhaps, but whatever the reason warheads just don't go boom the way they used to wa-a-ay in the past. My somewhat recent trials with a missile were never successful getting the warhead to explode on impact. Rather, I had to have a sensor and a timer block; the timer block would arm the missile a second or two after launch, and the sensor would detonate the missile just before impact. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't work. I got out of the missile business because of that. Make love, not war, baby!

I just tested both issues, with and without the adaptive sim quality. Turning off adaptive sim quality did nothing.

Its not adaptive simulation quality, I NEVER play with that setting on. lol

A setting that nerfs fun no thanks!

I just tested the large block Warhead and it worked very well.

I tried on Voxel and large block ship = OK

Warheads launched from space :

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380333587
Also tested on my starship :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380341963
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380343908
Damaged done by one Warhead, well one on both sides:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380345788
And I play all on default so Adaptive simulation quality should be enabled.

The problem usually appears when the warhead is covered in armor blocks, if the warhead is the first block impacting the target it usualy explodes properly as your test shows.

Just put some armor on your warhead and you should be able to reproduce the bug.

Maybe but the OP said :

>> "I have warheads on the front of my missile" <<

So those needs to be armed and it should explode on impact :selike:
