Can I download the default skybox in png format?
I'm trying to design an effective camouflage in Blender, but I don't just want to use a screenshot.

look in workshop for original Skybox, check the Number in the URL, the mod id. go to folder Steam, common, ... downloads form workshop, post the number in serge ... is not all exactly ...

so in this folder from the mod is the skybox.

Curious on why? The AI doesn't see color. Coloring blocks would have to be a mod, which other players would have to download.

The skybox image is BackgroundCube.dds located in the game files at

<path>\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Textures\BackgroundCube\Final

But realise that it is basically an image that is rendered onto the 6 inner faces of a cube that is in the far distance, and it's pre-distorted with that in mind.

Simple - Multiplayer.
A bright red ship is gonna get spotted immediately, but a stealthy one with camo can slip undetected

Theres a great vid somewhere on you tube that deals with camo. He got great results just using digital style painting the blocks that way. If i remember though a black projection around the ship was amazing at anything past a few hundred metres. Il see if i can find the vid, as others said if its for MP then everyone on the server would need your camo mod to see it, so everyone would have the camo, and you wouldnt have an advantage :)

OK so i was remembering two different vids, pretty old so not sure if it still works, the projector thing still looks cool though...

Way back, I was going to try using the programmable block to change the ship top to green/yellow/blue when on planet (base on biome), blue bottom when leaving planet, then black in space. That was just me in a solo game so it wouldn't have mattered. Then I found out block colors can't be changed that way.

I kind of don't like that as a theme though, mainly because it probably won't be mentioned to new players so they won't know. It turns into newb griefing. I would be more okay with it if it just made the camo the default color for everything.

And when I made my first post here, I sent the DDS file through two converters to PNG and they both failed to process the file.
