More gyros will increase the speed of rolls, yaw ect though unless a ship of 100+ blocks long their placement is also not a real issue.
And as the frag-ster said, you'll need one or more gyroscopes for controlling your ship's yaw, pitch, and roll. The closer they are to the ship's center of mass, the more efficiently they work, but the difference isn't very significant.
so that means, i just place thrusters where i want and place the gyros more to the middle?
Yes you can place them anywhere on your ship to no negative effect, gyros are better in the center of gravity though this isn't a major issue either though a rule to remember is this.
In space you need to have thrusters in all 6 directions, if dealing with a ship that runs in just atmosphere you only need 5 directions, thrusters to push you down are just dead weight and power drain. Pressing C will lower your ship anyway.
