You may have chosen the wrong game then...... Keen is not working on a story at this time, and have no plans for such.
Space Engineers is a sandbox game. You make your own story. It's been that way since the beginning. Try the in-game campaign.
"Finish support for scenarios, mission scripts and sub-missions (will need for tutorials)
- Better support for gradual tutorials (story-based tutorials), submissions"
So I wanted to know what the "scenarios" and "mission scripts" means. But if there won't be any story or at least anything to aim for (doesn't necessarily have to be a story), then you're right, it's not a game for me.
but you can find some excellent scenarios with some kind of story like:
Outpost 17
Escape From Mars
The Martian
Return to Earth
Super Engineer Adventures
First about SE is not survival game.
Second Its not a story game also. So no it will not have a story like i assume u expect.
and reasons for that are simple.
1. Keen is too afraid to pick their auditory and instead trying to sit with one ass on all chairs.
2. Some people enjoy emptyness (there are many example of that on a market)
p.s.
If u ask me:
CD Projekt Red: "We are making a dream and leave greed to others".
4A Games : "We dont care what fans want, If we enjoy our game - some one else will too".
Keen should man up and make this empty space into game of ANY kind. Stop peeing pants because can't make omelette without breaking eggs.
In a lot of ways, including story, Space Engineers is basically Minecraft in space. Meaning you need to make your own story.
SE is a building game and Survival mode is more like Realistic / Manual building mode than it is a "survival game." Here is what the CEO said about it.
http://blog.marekrosa.org/2014/03/space-engineers-survival-mode-update_13.html
As you indicated in a "survival" game the goal is often not simply to survive but to survive while uncovering a mystery or to take the steps necessary to "complete" the game.
As for that roadmap it hasn't been updated in over 2 years as they are still working on bugs. At one time Keen spoke about creating missions and scenarios but that did not come to fruition. Instead they put out the tool they had build for themselves i.e the scenario editior and visual scripting tool in hopes that the modding community would do the work for them.
But only a couple of legitimate scenarios were every created due to the complextity of the work necessary. The one I have played was called Escape from Mars. It was quite an achievement. You spawn on Mars in a busted ship and the story is that the corp you work for has shot you down but you don't know why. As you explore the now hostile installations to gather resources and unlock the ability to build block you discover the reason for the corp's actions and why you must "escape" Mars.
It is really fun. But it took the modder a couple hundred hours to produce and he needed the assistance of several other modders to complete it.
For this reason I don't think we will see anything more from the modding community until the game is released and a version frozen for a while since scenarios like this can be broken by major changes. And I think Keen will need to work on the tools, maybe create some templates and get the time to create a scenario down to something reasonable before they can expect the modding community to produce volume and quality.
...what was that for again?
because i whould have liked someone telling me that before i bought a creative building game with a build limit
Are you able to create?
SE is just cople of blocks in empty space + rotor and+ programable block.... its extreemly far from atleast average building game.
