Remote construction.
Saw a post on reddit[www.reddit.com] a while back bringing up the ability to build via remote.

Has anyone looked in to this or seen it available in any current mods?

What do you mean?
Like placing blocks via a drone?

Cause you can control a drive with a welder, but not place new blocks for a drone to build.

you can't place a block from a remote controlled drone, unless is a projection that you can weld it

Perhaps they were refering to "build from cockpit?" I never use that feature but I believe it is still present.

Yes, build from cockpit but using a remote block.

Perhaps wasn't clear before, has anyone looked in to making this available via mod or know of it available in a mod.

I dont know of a mod for it. I guess it wouldnt be to hard to give that function to a remote block. Or maybe to a camera and you have to view it to use it.

But it does give me a great idea of jus walling yourself inside an asteroid and never leaving after building your first drone.

Maybe thats why its not a thing. You could just live in an armour bubble deep in an asteroid haha

I don't know if build mode will ever work with drones, but I hope does eventually. All-Remote Ironman sound fun. You'd have to deploy and maintain a huge satellite network to control your spacecraft.

You still can build a dry dock to never leave the confimes of a station lol

There is a nanite factory mod that I find very useful. You could try that. Nanite factory is expensive to build but fairly good from what I tried in creative.

Frankly, this would be a game-changer. A good one.

Don't think nanites let you start constructing something 30km away from your character's position.

Sure they do.

The nanite factory itself just can't be 30km away from the construction site.

When I was still using it, I made a remote controlled nanite ship. It was of limited usefulness though, since you still can't place new blocks remotely...

So you're saying nanites can start construction remotely? The thing this topic is about?
Never seen this behavior, must be new. Only seen them able to weld things already started or with a projector.

How does one do this?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My point was that the nanite factory can work a long way away from the player, but yeah, my bad for not reading your comment: it still can't place new blocks.

Not trying to derail your thread, I promise. Remote block placement is high up there on my personal wish list too.

Theoretically you could premake a bunch of projections, and use a projector to place them and build that way. It would probably be a pain in the ass to do, but you could do it completely remotely with cameras and projects, plus either a welding drone or nanite factory.

This could be modded by using a programing block to control a projector then problem wouldn't be moving the block around or changing its orientation it would be switching blocks quickly, but if you could come up with a list of a couple dozen blocks and make blueprints for them I think this could be achieved in vanila.
